March 27, 201115 yr QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Next year as the #2 catcher adn learing the game better from AJP That's probably the best case scenerio. If he hits at Charlotte, and its a big if, 15 or so spring training ABs shouldn't mean all that much, and the Sox have catching problems either with performance or injury, he'll come up this year. Castro's contract ends, if Flowers has earned it, he'll be a White Sox next seasonIf he doesn't hit, he may be selling insurance a year from now. Edited March 27, 201115 yr by Dick Allen
March 27, 201115 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Disagree. And you would be wrong. Unless your talking about a young prospect back with limited upside like a Jon Ely, then you would be correct as far as getting "something back."

Unless your talking about a young prospect back with limited upside like a Jon Ely, then you would be correct as far as getting "something back." Yes. Something back > nothing back. That's my point. Maybe Kenny just wants to get something rather than nothing, while having an excuse to cut Marquez and his awfulness.

Maybe Kenny just wants to get something rather than nothing, while having an excuse to cut Marquez and his awfulness. We have different definitions of something and nothing. The bottom line is dumping Lillibridge for nothing now vs. hoping to get something back in a few weeks for his services and actually receiving a player isn't going to have a profound effect on the White Sox either in the present or in the future. Profound effect? Highly unlikely. But where is the negative? Doesn't hurt us in any way.
March 27, 201115 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Profound effect? Highly unlikely. But where is the negative? Doesn't hurt us in any way. If they had a pitcher who could actually get out big league hitters once in a while out of the bullpen it would be a negative, but right now they apparently do not.

In the end, we all knew how wrong we were.
March 27, 201115 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) That's what I THOUGHT!! Not that was a lucky but good guess Both you and flavum called it, it seems that Marquez last night's meltdow is the reason for this. And I'm glad he is gone, he brings nothing to the table. Like I said in the catch-all, big surprise, not sure how I feel about this move. I seem to remember times where DJ Carrasco being the 12th pitcher kept us in ballgames because the starting rotation didn't have a good start and guys were going 5-6 innings max. Hope they know what they're doing. Edited March 27, 201115 yr by justBLAZE
March 27, 201115 yr QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Marquez has been placed on waivers, says Jerry Crasnick. Its standard operating procedure as he is out of options. I don't think anyone will lose any sleep if some team claims him for some unknown reason, although he is the same pitcher as Jon Garland.
March 27, 201115 yr I don't want Marquez, but I don't see why we need both Milli and Lilli on the bench. Maybe the waiver wire can give us another pitcher......Silva?
March 27, 201115 yr QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) I don't want Marquez, but I don't see why we need both Milli and Lilli on the bench. Maybe the waiver wire can give us another pitcher......Silva? Silva makes Marquez look like Roy Haladay. Hopefully KW can find someone in the next few days because I think a 12th pitcher is probably more useful than another bench guy, but at least they didn't stick with crap (Marquez) and if both Milledge and Lillibridge are on the team, they will answer which one if any really belong on the roster.
March 28, 201115 yr QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 05:28 PM) I don't want Marquez, but I don't see why we need both Milli and Lilli on the bench. Maybe the waiver wire can give us another pitcher......Silva? Milli + Lilli makes a versatile, dangerous bench player. Marquez makes a gas can to pour on the occasional poor start. We have the roster spot, we don't want to give Lilli up for nothing (he WOULD get claimed off of waivers) so why not? No Silva for me, thanks. P.S. On an ancillary note, in another thread someone mentioned that Silva's contract was better than Teahen's. I wonder if they still feel that way...
March 28, 201115 yr What happens with Marquez since he is on waivers? If no one claims him, is he still Sox property and will go to Charlotte or is he a free agent?
March 28, 201115 yr QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) I really don't like going with a six-man bullpen to start the year. Granted there are off days, but the worst thing we can do is overworked our relievers early in the season just so Lillipad can stay on the roster two extra weeks. When will the Sox realize how worthless he is? Since ozzie guilen has been the white sox manager they have used the bullpen less than any other team in baseball. This should not be a worry, hardly anything to lose sleep over. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) Yes. Something back > nothing back. That's my point. I don't think anyone will lose any sleep if some team claims him for some unknown reason, although he is the same pitcher as Jon Garland. If this were true he would be starting for someone in the major leagues. Garland is highly valuable considering his consistency innings wise. Currently he has a streak of nine years pitching 190+ innings. Six of those nine he reached 200 innings. There are not many of his ilk out there. When garland was making 10 million i wanted nothing to do with him, when he is making half of that, he is a damn fine addition to any rotation.
March 28, 201115 yr Well, I guess that will officially close the book on the Swisher fiasco. So, the Sox got nothing in return for Swisher. Both Marquez and Betimet released. Oh, they do still have Nunez, don't they? What a disaster. I was actually beginning to like Marquez. That 16/2 Strike out to walk ratio in S.T. looked pretty impressive. He appears to have recovered from his surgery, and even added a cut fastball. I don't see how this organization can afford to discard young, inexpensive, serviceable arms. But what do I know?

But Marquez does not fit the criteria of serviceable. Doesn't help that he has no talent, either. Nunez appears to be AAAA fodder. So we can officially chuck the Swisher era out the window. 0/2.

Milledge will eventually replace Juan Pierre or Carlos Quentin (if he can't gather his s***). Lillibridge is the name I would give to a flower or bunny.
March 28, 201115 yr If nobody gets hurt the first month, Lillibridge will be gone by May 1...probably sooner. It's just buying time before they need a consistent 5th starter.
