Sox reliever Tony pena says he's out for rest of '11, will see Dr. Jobe in So. Cal later this week, surgery likely on arm

Well there goes 2011, time to think about 2012.

He's had a rough year.

I barely noticed he was missing. Well I hope he comes back well next year.

.........with a new team.

When healthy Tony P was a versatile pitcher and effective. But, you could see earlier this year he was hurting. I don't expect him back in 2012 either healthy or nor

In before Brandon Allen.

I feel bad for him, but this morbidly helps the Sox on and off the field.

He's a big fan of Jose Paniagua.

One less "ROI" scenario to worry about. :gosox1:

Tony will not be back as a Sox player IMO!

Remember when Tony Pena used to be good in 07, 08, and 09? Yeah...

Having him start last year totally f***ed his arm up.

Really, he wasn't that good in 08-09 either. He was ok. ERA around 4 or over, WHIP around 1.5.

Does his contract expire this year?

He's arbitration-eligible, and this issue means the sox are unlikely to offer him arbitration. That would make him non-tendered this offseason.

Even if the Sox non-tender him, Brandon Allen isn't doing anything too extravagant with the Diamondbacks. .393 OBP, .267 AVG in 22 games last year.

The big difference being that Arizona brought in these guys to block Allen.

Mark Teahen? Adam Dunn? Reupping Konerko?
