For those that couldn't see the 9th, what happened with Rios?

 

 

 

He took a high but clearly in the strike zone breaking ball over the plate for strike 3.

 

Then stood at the plate arguing with the umpire while he got tagged out.

 

There was very little chance he would have been safe, as the ball got away from the catcher's glove maybe 10-15 feet.....but he should have run to force the catcher to make the throw, maybe it gets away miraculously and the White Sox tie up the ballgame somehow.

 

Just selfish instincts there to completely forget the situation.

Before everyone blames Rios for not running (which most will do), blame him for looking at a pitch that close with 2 strikes. It's not natural for a hitter to run to 1st after a strike out where he didn't even swing the bat.

 

 

Thats what Im mostly pissed about. Pretty clear it was a strike.

I guarantee AJ Pierzynski would have remembered the situation and run to first.

Just when you want to actually cheer for Alex Rios and believe for about the 10th time he's turning things around with the White Sox....he does something like that to make you angry with him again and you want to see him benched.

Let's see, Lillibridge gets his only start in the series against a RHP and strikes out 3 times. How can Robin not understand how to use him effectively?

 

Also, Escobar should only be in the lineup when Alexei needs an off-day. He's just not a major leage hitter.

Wow! At the start of the week, it looked like this might be an exciting team to watch this year. What a crappy series! And we only averaged 12,000 for the 4-game series. Probably the lowest attended 4-game series in the history of the new Comiskey/US Cellular Field.

I hate this wierd in-between we're in. The Sox don't overly suck as a team(yet). And we want to believe that they will be able to compete for something into at least August. But there are so many negatives(strikeouts, defensive lapses, some horrific everyday players, mental midgets) that you figure this thing is going to implode sooner or later...in which case we are watching to see what the young guys can do...but outside of Jones, DeAza and Reed (Santiago??) most of them have been just awful.

 

And if this boat sinks and Morel, Beckham, Stewart, Flowers, Escobar, Viciedo and Santiago continue to be bad...wtf are we left with? I just cringe at the worst case scenario going forward.

 

Top that off with the mental mistakes we have been seeing...that we were hoping a new coach/voice would help negate.

Sox only hope is to rake in the division this year which is possible when you play so many games against the s*** Royals, Indians and Twins.

 

Ridiculous series for the mediocre Chicago White Sox. Can't even split with Baltimore at home.

 

I don't appreciate the way the White Sox play the game. Whiff.

You are correct, Sir. This is one time where it's an overreaction to jump all over Rios for not running to first on that.

What you and your "reasoned logic" have to understand is this board has several "old school" individuals that are so Chicago tough, so Clint Eastwood-like, that their fire and passion doesn't allow for common sense crap like that. These guys are rough and tumble, take no quarter, and still make the world go around from their rocking chairs.

And maybe the catcher has a brain cramp and forgets to touch home plate...so he throws to first but throws it away, too? The first reaction when a catcher sees a runner going for a base is to throw there. Maybe the pitcher comes to cover the plate to remind him, but the pitcher would have been so close they might have flubbed the exchange or SOMETHING.

 

If you at least TRY to do something, instead of standing there arguing with the ump...watch baseball in the 1950's, 60's or 70's, you never would have seen a player do something like standing there arguing with the home plate umpire.

 

Especially when Rios was the one who stuck his bat out enough on a check swing to put himself down in the count 0-1.

 

You have to swing at anything close to the plate. Clearly, Viciedo (previous inning) and Rios were not expecting breaking balls after a steady diet of fastballs, but you have to be prepared to at least try to foul one off and stay alive, like Alexei Ramirez did on a breaking pitch that was away and off the plate.

Damn us for losing to the AL East leading Orioles.

 

Calm down everyone. Wait till May to meltdown.

Losing all three of those games when we had multiple chances to tie or win (especially Tuesday with the 4-1 lead) has everyone a bit grump.

 

That's something like 6 of our last 7 that we've lost to the Orioles at home.

 

We no longer have much of a home field advantage.

 

Back in 2005-2006-2008, we really protected our home turf. Recently, we seem to play better on the road.

 

Even in 2010, I don't remember the splits, but it seems Beckham and Quentin did better on the road than at USCF.

I'm not saying like Verlnader numbers, but when people were talking about the Sox rotation they only mentioned issues with Peavy Sale and Humber. Seemingly ignoring the issues Gavin has with consistency (and for that matter Danks) Both Guys headlining the rotation CAN be good, but they can't seem to put together more than a handful of great starts in a season and wind up with very average numbers...

For most teams, Danks is a 2 and Floyd is a 3/4.

 

They're never going to "lead" us to a playoff run without the other components to go really go on a run, namely Sale and Peavy, but mostly Sale going forward.

 

They also need Molina to provide the statistical replacement value of a 3/4 starter, if not better.

Probably two of the most under looked reasons for the Sox lack of success since '05 is that Danks and Floyd have been solid performers and nothing more.

Posts like this confuse me.

The White Sox have sucked for two-plus seasons now. Many of us would rather NOT give the team the benefit of the doubt and wait for them to show us things may have changed.

Losing 3 of 4 at home to Baltimore is ridiculous. Our hitting sucks.

 

Yes many of us are not completely jumping off the ledge cause play vs. the Central Div. has been good. Everything else has sucked.
