What will Kenny do ?

Featured Replies

Lots of good pieces out there. Marlins selling Cubs selling. Sox said to want Greinke. Kenny's done a great job getting the Red Sox and Astro's to eat salary. Does he continue to go that route ? There's plenty of suitor for the high end guys with better prospects and willing to eat more money.

My prediction is the Sox reacquire Buerhle and hope they can get the Marlins to eat the last year of the contract, This would make the fan base pretty happy and he's had success in the AL as opposed to wondering what you might get from an NL pitcher who pitches in a pitcher friendly park. As much as the Sox are said to want Greinke I can't see the Sox getting a rental after all the moves they've made to trim salary and the trades they've made so far not to take on salary.

Buehrle +Johnson or Greinke

Kenny will make a trade for Matt Garza

Hopefully he nabs another reliever.

My guess is he flips Floyd for a cheaper/more reliable starter.

My 3 bold predictions.....

1) Josh Johnson

2) Joe Saunders

3) Josh Beckett + large sum of money

bat for the bench. Maybe a lefty arm for the pen. Can't see the big name starter happening

Reed Johnson for the bench

Reed Johnson for the bench

My 2nd choice was he makes a deal with the Cubs.

Edwin Jackson.

something we aren't talking about.

King Felix.

Man if KW pulled that off, I'd shoot whoever says anything bad about him ever again.

it would be pants tightening, no doubt.

Geoff Blum.

But seriously...James Shields.

Trade Floyd for prospects

Flip prospects plus our prospects for a top of the line starter ( Grienke, Garza, Shields, Johnson etc...)

I think he'll use Reed in a deal to get Greinke and then pick up Huston Street from SD.

Floyd, Mitchell, Reed, possibly another pitching prospect for Greinke.

I don't think Street will cost a ton if/when he turns down SD's contract extension proposal.

Thome for a big bench bat? I think he has to do something with what the tigers did. Johnson or Street? Shouldve went out and got Hanley maybe we could have packaged him with Ozzie :lolhitting BUT in all seriousness Reed Johnson and Josh Johnson are my two picks.

I heard Pads want to re-sign Street.

I just don't think KW wants to make a deal to hurt future teams. . It's just too much to sacrifice on a rental.

You may be right but I think this year's team is what KW was hoping for/expecting last year when they were supposedly "all in". Therfore, I think he may go for it this year and he sees the window of oppurtunity to win it all closing very quickly. I know it's hard to predict the future, but 2 years from now PK, AJ, Dunn, Peavy, and Youk are all probably gone and the Sox aren't contending anyway. Why not try and win it all this year?

Hmmm... I'll go ahead and state the obvious, KWs gonna go for broke and make a huge power move for Felix Hernandez, possibly Cliff Lee

The thing is I don't think he see's the window of opportunity closing so quickly. Weather we get Greinke or not we're in a good position. Granted I think we need another starter but one can be acquired without sacrificing the future. All the moves KW made in the off season and so far during the season point to him looking at the future while keeping his eye on this year. I believe he continues along that path. We shall see.

I hope Reed stays.

Unfortunately it looks like the chairman turned down what we all knew was a pipe dream. No Buerhls back.... Unless they pick up a bunch of salary. LOL JK. Here's a breif quote from a article about JR on ESPN Chicago:

Reinsdorf was asked about adding pitching to his playoff-contending club, specifically bringing back Mark Buehrle, considering Miami's so-called fire sale. Reinsdorf admitted he advised Buehrle to sign with the Marlins.

"The only thing I can tell you is when Mark told me he had a $56-million, four-year contract offer, I told him he should take it," Reinsdorf said. "I really told Mark he had to take it. At this stage of your career, it's more money than you're worth. He said he was going to take it, but he'll back in four years."
