I honestly wonder if they will trade Stanton. He doesn't cost anything...yet. But he's obviously pissed off and wont want to be there, but will Loria give a s*** about that?

Probably not, like you said he doesnt cost anything therefore he gets to stay. Nolasco is probably the next to go, and once he does, the marlins payroll will be close to just $10 million. Ballin' on a budget!

$10-20 million payroll + free stadium + revenue sharing income = $$$$$$$$$$$$ in Loria's pocket

Baseball needs a salary floor. I can't believe the union has never pushed it.

Im predicting the Las Vegas Marlins within 5 years, the shiny new Marlins Park becomes the new stadium of the Miami Hurricanes, and Loria is given the Benito Mussolini treatment in Miami.

I wonder how content Buerhle is with pitching in Toronto, as we all recall he always had that stance of Chicago or St.Louis only, eventhough he ended up in Miami but with Ozzie.

So the Jays go from a payroll of about $75M to $120M. I'm thinking the Sox can add at least $20M.

Selig should veto this trade. You can't allow this all of the time. I have a feeling that the Red Sox-Dodgers trade is going to set a new, bad precedent.

I totally agree.

I don't think Mark is gonna have a very fun time facing the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays and O's so many times a year. Don't have his career numbers vs. the East, but I don't remember too many good performances against Boston and New York...

Every team in baseball will want Stanton and the Marlins, when they trade him, probably next year when he can get arb money, will want prospects. Hope for some big years from the higher thought of,minor leaguers next season,

WTF is going on here

This trade, the Dodgers deals, the extra wild card, the Astros are in the AL... WTF this isn't even baseball anymore. This s*** isn't supposed to happen.

This trade is an embarassement for baseball.

He needs to openly and very loudly campaign for a trade both for the good of himself & for the good of baseball. The bigger the scene & the more negative attention the Marlins receive the better.

So can people understand why guys like FLoyd, Rios, Dunn, and Thornton don't have much trade value right now? Guys with big dollar contracts don't bring back big returns.

Can't wait to watch the Blue Jays still only be a .500 team yet again in 2013 :P

Actually I think this deal kind of proves the opposite. There are some pretty good prospects going to the Marlins even with all the cash they are ditching.

It clear the Marlins don't want to spend any money on players or try to play remotely competitive baseball even with their stadium just heading into its second year of operation. The return is fine actually IMO, the problem is Loria.

Farrell seemed like a s***ty manager judging by the carelessness & flashiness their players showed on the field. Getting him out of there is just going to be a good thing IMO. If they bring in the right manager, then it can boil down to a relatively simple equation of Talent + Confidence + Health = Success. They could be an excellent team next year.

If Romero rebounds and Buehrle is Buehrle then you have 2 aces at the top and 2 #3's in the middle, plus lots of power and speed on offense, plus excellent athletes on the field defensively.

Agree.

Josh Johnson however is.

Brandon Morrow is as well.

Embarrassing. Commissioner should veto the trade and banish Loria from MLB. All the owners need to to pressure him to sell. City of Miami should be up in arms

If they're healthy.

Lots of question marks with the team even after this trade, and playing in the East which got a lot better in 2012 with the Yankees being the Yankees, the Orioles making major leaps and the Rays being the Rays plus, I expect the Red Sox to reload this off-season. It's gonna be tough for Toronto...

Marisnick and Nicolino are studs, but your overall point remains valid.

Every outside exec spoken to doesn't think #Marlins will trade Stanton. 2 said Mia said all availables at GM Meetings, Stanton not on list

JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm

The trades of Reyes, Buehrle & Bell will certainly impact this Free Agent class where top players will now insist on No-Trade clauses

In other news, Marlins fans are trying to petition to secede from baseball. Unfortunately, they don't have the minimum 25,000 signatures.
