That would be f***ing great. With the Titans landing Levitre that's one of the first round suitors for a guard off the board, so maybe. Guards can always slide in the draft

Exactly... Like last year when DeCastro slid to #24 after many thought he'd go in the teens.

I expect them to draft a guard in the 1st two rounds. My guess is the other pick will be a LB, but they could also use some youth at the cornerback position. I know they've also kicked the tires on some receivers and could look at Tavon Austin at 20.

If they sign a veteran, 2nd tier OG like rumored, I really have no idea what direction they'll go. I would really like some youth and depth at CB. LB depending on Roach/Urlacher could end up being a big need. Can always use OL. Like you said, a speed WR like Austin to pair with Marshall/Jeffery. That's the beauty of taking care of the major needs in FA. We have now have lots of options.

I like Emery's style. It's almost like he isn't blind and actually watches football. So the need for the Bears to draft a OT isn't going to be SCREAMING for once.

I think the Raiders just released all their players. Except Carson Palmer.

Cuts to come later.

According to the site, we were at the cap at the beginning of the day. Look at our player salaries, cap numbers and tell me how you'd make room for both of these hefty new contracts. Now, I hear that we were about 7 under the cap which would make things more manageable -- but then I'm unsure where that website is inaccurate.

They were already under the cap, so they have until I think July to get under the cap by the beginning of the season.

They can move money around to make room for this year. The real question will be how do they sign Melton, Cutler and Marshall in the next two years.

@mortreport: From Eagles; also agree to terms with: CB Fletcher Bradley, S Patrick Chung, LB Jason Phillips and DL Isaac Sopoaga

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Haha

Alright Cutler. You still have your Pro Bowl RB, you have a stud #1 WR, now you have a TE and a LT, not to mention an offensive minded coach. Time to score some f***ing points.

Yet people say we need WR help and the LT we signed is no good -- still lots of reasons we could not do well :)

Also, this will be Forte's last season in Chicago. Book it.

Well, we both use PFF so we know that Bushrod was still an overall positive player (higher rating than long and Webb, but a bad year in pass pro). The potential is there though. He also gave up a combined 4 hurries and 2 sacks in the games against SF and GB. I would have rather gotten loadholt, Winston, or smith, but I'm really not as unhappy with the signing as you. It really clearly upgrades the offensive line.

Martellus Bennet aka Black Unicorn saved a fans life...

I would like to sign Heyward Bay at the right price. Total speed burner.

It's just the money. I think our line has to be better with him in it, but he becomes one of our highest paid players. The fact that Kromer is here seems to make it more likely that it is hubris than good scouting...but I like Emery and I don't expect him to really f*** things up. I'm willing to be wrong, but I'll say he wouldn't have been my target for that dollar amount.

I know we just signed a big-time TE, but if Eifert is the Bears top-ranked player on the board at 20, I still take him. Patriots have proven to top TEs can co-exist. Plus, both are great blockers. Can really do some interesting sets with two TES.

Bennett's deal is 4 years, $20M. Not sure on guaranteed money yet. That's a very reasonable deal for a 25 year old TE entering his prime and coming off the season he had.

Both of these deals are pretty reasonable deals. Neither guys are stars but both fill major needs and make the team better. Got to really love it. Plus, unlike last year where Emery ended up signing a bunch of role players, these guys are starters at key positions (TE & LT). I think there is a decent chance they add another starter at the guard position this off-season as well via free agency and possibly another starter on the oline via draft (I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we had 3 new starters on the line and fully expect 2 new starters).

And Pryor

We already have a guy we took last year who has drawn comparisons to Aaron Hernandez, I'd have to pass on Eifert. If Cooper and Warmack are gone then I'm hoping for Ogletree at 20. If Ogletree is gone too I would go WR just for the hell of it. The Vikings have a huge need at WR (right now anyway) and they pick behind the Bears so taking a WR of the board would make the offense even more dynamic and hurt one of our competitors.

I like what Emery has done with the team so far. He's wasted no time in addressing WR and OL, which is refreshing.

But Lovie said our OL and TE positions were great. No need to upgrade... waste of money...

Coaches have to say that kind of stuff. It doesn't go over well in the lockerroom if the coaching staff is trashing his own players publicly, true or not.
