Big 10 Tournament Thread

Again, why even have a regular season then?

Because those upset chances between the #120 teams vs the #10 teams should be during the season.

Then why have 65 teams in the tournament? Why not make it 16? Let's really make it interesting, and screw these conference tournaments.

Because we know that the current system is fun and exciting and not over drawn out nor too short. It works perfectly after the long NCAAB season.

One more game wouldn't make it any less interesting. In fact, the first round could be played on the higher seed's homecourt.

Sounds even more like a regular season non-conference game.

Could you imagine a round of 128, where on the first day there are like 7-8 games happening at a given time? It can get dicey catching the ends of the games when there are 3 or 4 going as-is, particularly if a game hits OT.

I think you start losing the TV excitement then. Plus, they can broadcast 3 games simultaneously using cable, 7-8 becomes tough, and spreading out the first round over 4 days seems tedious.

Depends entirely on who goes pro. The conference could be pretty bad next year if a lot of the underclassmen that will be first round picks leave. You could conceivably have Oladipo, Zeller, Thomas, Harris, Payne and Burke all go pro (and it wouldn't be completely shocking if guys like Hardaway or Robinson III take a crack either) which would leave you without a single top tier team in the Big 10 for next year.

All the stuff we've heard is Thomas is on the fence if he doesnt get a lottery grade.

We are pulling in two scorers in Loving and Williams. Loving should get immediate minutes. OSU shouldnt have any drop off defensively, offensively is WAY up in the air.

It's better as is....

Half of the fun of tournament selection Sunday is arguing about the teams that weren't included, the mid majors being hurt by major conference teams refusing to play them, but the overall parity has increased with the NBA exodus for most superstar level players...so getting in is a pretty fair bar and standard.

The NBA and NHL let too many teams in and it waters down their regular seasons, compared to the NFL or MLB.

The bubble is already full of mediocre teams as it is, adding 60 more isn't going to improve anything.

He's 2014.

Oh, could've sworn he was a senior this year.

The Big Ten will have 2 8-10 conference record teams in a tournament to win a National Championship. The "why even have a regular season" because the tournament has too many teams ship has already sailed.

A team's conference schedule is not their full schedule, thankfully.

Nah. That class will be even better for us though. Then 2015 has the chance to fill out the 3 class reload.

People who don't understand how incredibly stupid evaluating won-loss record in conference is, especially when it's a difference of one game, are idiots.

Who'd you play, who'd you beat. Besides, everyone doesn't play the same teams in conference.

I say this every time someone brings up expanding the tourney but ill say it again...it's the most perfect thing in sports leave it the f*** alone.

By your knowledge of how many teams are actually in the tournament I assume you're a huge college basketball fan.

You have to remember that Iowa had the easiest Big 10 schedule this year as well. So while they went 9-9, they missed having to play quite a few good teams a second time.

Purdue? Really?

lol, that Purdue kid was trying to play hero on that last possession.

Cant make a buzzer beater if you pass the ball...

False, MLB all-star game.

8-10 or 9-9... or even 10-8. Records are deceiving because of unbalanced conference schedules. That's why they look at the whole body or work, not just the conference season. Iowa screwed themselves by playing NOBODY in the non-conference part of the schedule. The committee has said year after year, if you don't schedule good teams, there is no automatic benchmark for qualification, aka 20 wins or .500 in conference play.

The tournament is perfect as it is. The whole regular season matters. There is a good mix of little guys and major schools. It is entertainment at its best!

The only change I would make would be with the conference tournaments in the smaller school leagues. Neutral sites don't work in the smallest of leagues. The team that wins the conference should be awarded a home court advantage. There are a lot of ways to do it, but that would help protect the Middle Tennessee's of the basketball world.
