2014-2015 NFL Football thread

At full speed I thought it was a catch. Upon seeing the review, I agree with the overturn. Bryant did a great job of high-pointing the ball, but Shields got a hand in there to jar it a bit. As Bryant was coming down, he controls it for a second, tries to reach towards the endzone (with the ball in hand), and the ball comes loose upon hitting the ground. The ball popping up off the ground signals shows that to me. If he had control of it, the ball would have remained in his hand the entire time. He never had full control of the football.

An incredibly athletic play, but it was correctly ruled an incompletion.

I agree, I also think this was far less egregious than Calvin Johnson's.

Football move = act common to the game (like diving or stretching for the endzone)

Once he performs a move other than just making the catch, he's a catch. If he was just trying to catch it, he would have tucked it in. He clearly felt he had control, because he reached for the endzone with the ball.

Item 1: Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or

without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting

the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches

the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching

the ground, the pass is complete.

But he was going to the ground, hence the above rule.

There was more calls that went Detroit's way last week than Dallas'. The biggest/latest call is just the only one people remember. Also, don't forget that the NFL laughably decided Suh could play last week, which had a bigger impact than any blown call in that game. Detroit wouldn't have had a chance without Suh, and that was the biggest blown call/advantage of all.

Do we need to repost the pics of the blatant holding no-calls in favor of Dallas, especially on critical plays?

I really would loooove to see the Bears sign a HC some time soon here, jeez. I get the feeling that every passing day that goes by they are decreasing their chances to get the guy they want and also continue to go the path of not knowing exactly what they want and will wind up with just a guy that happened to still be there that they liked.

I swear if turns out in the future that Bowles was the best of the bunch and the Bears missed out by dorking around I wouldnt be the least surprised. Its Arians all over again.

I believe Rex Ryan has been the only HC signed so far correct? It doesn't appear that they're behind or anything.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, yes the media already knows that there are teams already scheduling Bowles for a second interview but who knows, we may have just not gotten word about him in Chicago yet.

Or perhaps they just wanna stick with the 4-3.

I didn't say the PI call was the only bad call that went in Dallas' favor. There were bad calls all over the place for and against both teams. To try the Cowboys got all the calls versus Detroit is just wrong, or maybe you didn't watch the game, I don't know.

He was not in the act of catching the pass. The act ended once he made a football move. Same as a player who catches the ball at the 5 yard line and immediately dives to the endzone. Once he dives after he catches the pass, the completion of the catch is over with.

There was no football move.

.....It was an awful call to end a great game, even if Rodgers comes back and the Packers win. I don't think there is a guarantee the Cowboys win that game if they get the call, but it doesn't change the fact that it would have been a much better ending than the game ending right after an awful call.

What goes around comes around.

Even in this game the Cowboys got many breaks. The pass interference to score the first touchdown. The referees given them an extra 3 yards before the replay correctly ruled he was nowhere near the first down.

right, stumbling forward while juggling the ball isn't a "football move"

His "football move" occurred while he was falling to the ground because he jumped for the ball and never had balance. Hence, the above rule where he must keep control of the ball throughout the process of hitting the ground. That's not the same thing as a player who catches the ball on two feet, then dives for the end zone.

In the end the play call was risky and not worth it at that time but the media fabricated story of this has not brought that up.

I don't get the 4th and 2 bomb there. Just get the two yards and keep the chains moving.

They had a third and one right before halftime and decided to throw. Romo bobbled the snap and had to throw it away. Then they had to attempt a long field goal, which was blocked.

LOL yeah and Rodgers marched them down the field for 3 points. The Cowboys had a good strategy to just keep the clock moving but decided to get cute with the play calling at really inane times.

its really not that hard to understand yet you keep arguing it.

It's always a fun argument when everyone in the thread agrees except the one person who happens to be a fan of the team who didn't get the call.

It's just the five stages of death at work. It will pass.

I agree. I don't know why you don't hit Witten with a 5 yard pass there. He is nearly automatic on those short 3rd (or 4th) downs. It was a weird call, but obviously Romo liked the 1 on 1.

It's always going to happen when everyone loves to hate and laugh at that team. If this happened to the Panthers no one would care. But it's funny when it happens to a team everyone hates. It's no surprise.

@JayGlazer: Broncos coach John fox just told me he and broncos have decided to part ways.

"it was totally mutual!"

I wouldn't hate him as the Bears coach, wouldn't be super inspiring but we could do much much worse.
