July 9, 201411 yr WRAL, the station for whom Gravley works, is based out of Raleigh, NC. North Carolina State is also based out of Raleigh, NC. There is most definitely some smoke here.

July 9, 201411 yr So he took a few weeks off stays to throw close to home to close out the year and starts game five of the 2015 season. No need to put him on the 40 man for the winter unless it is part of the deal. Works for me.
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 01:15 AM) If this was a betting option in Vegas - I would have put millions on it. Soooooo how about you never visit Vegas.
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) More smoke... https://twitter.com/jgravleyWRAL Nice find, I RT'd that from the FS account. Thanks for digging it up.
July 9, 201411 yr Do we still have a shot at that #11 guy? Or does it depend on how much $$ is left after this signing?
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Do we still have a shot at that #11 guy? Or does it depend on how much $$ is left after this signing? All depends on what Rodon signs for. If it's slot or barely over, we have a chance. Otherwise, nope.
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Do we still have a shot at that #11 guy? Or does it depend on how much $$ is left after this signing? You mean De Oca at 15th? Highly unlikely, he was looking for 7 figures, and it looks like he was the backup plan for Rodon. Choplick (32nd) is also an overslot candidate but not nearly as over, so depending on what Rodon signs for, we may get him.

So how do you view that Winston-Salem slot for Rodon? Edited July 9, 201411 yr by GreenSox
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) Yea, De Oca is who I meant. Thanks. So how do you view that Winston-Salem slot for Rodon? When Montas went down and they didn't promote Dykstra, I had a feeling they were holding the slot for exactly this reason. For a guy like him, and the way the Sox do things, the aggressive assignment isn't a big surprise.
July 9, 201411 yr Hooray! There should never have been done much doubt that it'd get done, but, hell, maybe Carlos just wanted to enjoy a little bit of summer.

July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) When Montas went down and they didn't promote Dykstra, I had a feeling they were holding the slot for exactly this reason. For a guy like him, and the way the Sox do things, the aggressive assignment isn't a big surprise. I can't remember which baseball expert I heard it from, but someone though Rodon would be immediately placed in Birmingham. So maybe the W-S start is not aggressive at all, and may be a little jab at him for not signing immediately like they expected him to. Like a "See, now you got an extra level to climb through because you wanted to be greedy" type thing.
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) White Sox sign 28 draft picks! http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...me/carlos-rodon um... that was an article from June 11th. They've signed 32 at this point, Rodon would be 33, and at least one (Davison) declared he isn't signing. Welcome to July.
July 9, 201411 yr Also for anyone who wants to know, see the 1st post in the thread, and the link to the Draft Tracker on FutureSox.
July 9, 201411 yr QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) BUT WE COULD HAVE USED THAT MONEY TO SIGN MELO Dammit! Tell Rick Hahn to amnesty Boozer.
July 9, 201411 yr Hopefully they can announce the signing during the game tonight. Maybe somewhere around Chris' 10th strikeout of the game. Or Tyler's fourth. Whichever happens first.
July 10, 201411 yr QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:31 AM) Hopefully they can announce the signing during the game tonight. Maybe somewhere around Chris' 10th strikeout of the game. Or Tyler's fourth. Whichever happens first. No way they'd announce tonight with the physical tomorrow (especially after the Aiken debacle).
