If I had to chose, gimme Upton with an extension over Samardjiza. I know Upton is less likely but a 3,4,5 of Abreu, LaRoche, Upton is pretty solid.

It would be a lot more than pretty solid. I feel like Samardzija is being a bit overrated here while Justin Upton, or at least his hitting, is being underrated.

If he is gone, and Samardjia is all that is coming back, this waiting years to build a foundation is BS. He is the one guy the drafted who actually seems to be developing.

Which is why I hope there is more to it than just Shark. A good shot at an extension? More pieces involved? etc. I'd be pretty dour on a Anderson for Shark trade. Even though there would be draft pick compensation at the end.
