Does Sale deserve better?

Well, I'm sorry, but they are going to have to give a "real deal" to get Chris Sale. Maybe 3-4 real deals.

I could see two "real deals", but I doubt the White Sox ever get the package they want :(.

The problem is any GM who gives up that much young talent and then Sale pitches for only a year or two before going down with an elbow or shoulder injury is risking his career...ending up like the Vikings' GM who gave up the future by dealing for Herschel Walker.

They won't get Bryant, so it would have to start Russell/Schwarber and go from there...Soler and Baez would be risky third pieces for Hahn. But, based on how Castro has looked this year, you can't do it if you're Epstein.

You go after Cueto and maybe Price if the Tigers fall back even more.

Yeah...could you imagine Sale in the NL for a whole year? Probably better numbers than Scherzer.

Chris Sale's contract is such that the risk of shoulder injury is mostly negated by how team friendly the contract is.

So classy. I'd be so mad if I were him

That's a great trade for both teams, but from a marketing perspective, the Cubs can't pull it off. But I agree with you. That's why you don't move a staff Ace. Anything less than Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, or Schwarber and Russel is too little.

Bryant for Sale straight up would be a horrible trade for us, it'd have to be quite a bit more.

Well if the Cubs don't want to part with talent then they aren't getting the best pitcher on the planet.

For me it's not even about the return. Obviously he's the best pitcher in the game over the past 2 months and the return would have to be 2-3 top flight prospects. That's besides the point, I just hate to see his talent go to waste on a team that isn't going anywhere. He's such a competitor and great team player, you root for a guy like that to be put into a position where he can have team as well as personal success.

Right, which is what forces another GM to give up a king's ransom, compared to the short-term rental rate of a Price or Cueto.

Sale could miss a season with Tommy John and his deal would still be a bargain

Not really in my opinion. He's still the best pitcher in the American League. The fact that he doesn't have the wins doesn't really affect that.

His entire non- option extension is worth one season of Clayton Kershaw.

Insider article, but Buster Olney said basically what I did about Sale. He also said that it'd be pretty tough to get value for him because his value is so high.

basically the same thing i am believing. even tho i was throwing ideas out there. the bottom line, the cost will too high to get full value for Sale, esp with his contract.

Let's see Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck should do it.

To sum up thread: Sale is paid to do his job, it sucks he doesn't get help, but wins for a pitcher don't really matter. The White Sox cannot possibly win a trade with Sale in it, so he's untradeable.

Speculation is a funny thing,lol.

"White Sox left-hander Chris Sale is on a strikeout tear and teams would surely like to add him this summer. However, team sources tell Cafardo that Sale is not available. Even though the White Sox are in last place, they see him as the cornerstone of their franchise. Sale, 26, has a 2.74 ERA with 12.1 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 through 13 starts this season"

Maybe things will change but it certainly sounds as though Sale is not going anywhere and I'm just fine with that. :D

That makes more sense than "wasting his good years" or whatever nonsense they call it. It's the best value for performance contract for the organization. Aces will soon be topping $200M.

while you are correct in the statement of value for the contract, you also have to admit that Sale is undoubtedly the #1 sp of this rotation, based on his talent alone. his contract is a fantastic one for the sox.

Can we just replace the Soxtalk banner with this post and close all the Sale trade threads?

Was that Levine asking the question? I could not tell but it sounded kind of like him.

It was.
