I figured this could bring up a nice discussion. There have been many great pitchers that have pitched for the Sox, but I think these 5 would comprise my all time rotation in this order.

 

1. Ed Walsh

2. Chris Sale

3. Red Faber

4. Ted Lyons

5. Mark Buehrle

 

There are a bunch of honorable mentions like Wilbur Wood, Eddie Cicotte, Billy Pierce, John Danks, etc, but what would your all time Sox rotation look like?

I don't know my history as well as I should but I'm genuinely offended that you mentioned John Danks and not Black Jack.

Whatever the remainder of the rotation would be, Wilbur Wood would be in it pitching on two days rest.

But it's cool some of the old-timers here remember some of these guys. Speaking of which, can any of you share some insight with us young guys about some of the old fabled Sox pitchers? That would be pretty cool.

 

There was no radar gun. They had guys who could throw hard. The ball wasn't wrapped as tight. There probably wasn't custom made bats. A lot less technology. They didn't treat pitchers like they are glass. There was no "let's shut him down" bulls***. Substance abuse was too much scotch. They had off season jobs. No DH.

I would have loved to see baseball before the 70's and those Sox teams in the 50's and 60's.

How many more years does Sale have to pitch at this level for him to make your top 5 Sox pitchers ever?

 

We could also make two lists, the top 5 Sox pitchers from 1950 and earlier and the top 5 Sox pitchers since then. It might be easier that way, as it's hard to compare Sale to Walsh or Buehrle to Lyons, etc.

How about the ultimate 12-man pitching staff since 2000 for fun? Most people here can remember most of them.

Bere/Alvarez/Fernandez/McDowell is the Sox version of Wood/Prior /Zambrano. It seemed like that rotation was gonna be great for years
