Numbers this bad are pretty remarkable for the third largest metro area in the country….Keep in mind, CSN covers SW Michigan and NW Indiana…

 

So to all those that have Sox fans pegged as "whiners and complainers"…. I suggest Reinsdorf pay a lot more attention to making his franchise relevant to all those whiners and complainers.. as it slips further into irrelevancy…

 

Also, the handwriting is on the wall for Reinsdorf and the his majority ownership of CSN.. only a matter of time before the Cubs get the wheels moving in developing their own network, similar to the Yankees.. YES Network… Right now here's the split with CSN

Hawks 20%

Bulls/Sox 40%

 

The Sox and Cubs both receive equal shares per game.. around $450K… all of this while the Cubs ratings have doubled and White Sox are watched by only the die hards of die hards

 

Down the road, with the Cubs out of the CSN picture, that leaves Hawks, Sox and Bulls, and NBC contributing other forms of programming.. You'd have to wonder if Wirtz, as well, would consider a separate Hawk network.. Leaving Reinsdorf holding the bag on this shell of a TV sports network..

 

Now the deal with the Cubs runs till 2019, so the ownership of the Sox could change by then, but something tells me it stays in the Reinsdorf family...

As far as a Hawks TV network? I doubt it. The Blackhawks still aren't profitable so there is no reason to be thinking about that kind of investment. Also, there's just not a lot of hockey interest outside of Canada, Buffalo, and Chicago.

I doubt it happens. You don't just up and move an original American League team that has over 115 years of history in city.

Most fanbases are like this, too. If you want people to watch, put a viable product on the field.

i am not using this to criticize the org, but this is me showing that i still have faith in the sox i grew up with.

 

after they get the pieces to improve .... and it is positive , the season tickets will sell and mark my words, if the offseason is good. the fans will start watching next yr.

If they weren't on CSN so much I'd watch a lot more games. But it seems like practically every game is on cable during the week. If only there were no mlb.tv blackouts.......

The Sox have right of first refusal to buy the cubs share of CSN if they leave. So if tommy boy wants to start his own channel like the dodgers and not be seen in the market due to high rights fees, so be it.

I don't think you are going to see any significant increase in viewership or attendance, unless the Sox come up with a strong April and May of 2016, and play without the bonehead mistakes, miserable defense, and non existent offense..I think the FO is deluding themselves if they think a roster reshuffling in the offseason is gonna bring fans back like it did in 2015

you do make a valid point, i will not dispute it.

 

but if the sox do invest wisely and get the pieces, some positive feeling will come thru. but only if the fans see the positive investment.

 

now if the northsiders , and i hate to see this, do well in the playoff. everything will be thrown out the window.

Let's imagine a best case scenario where they approximate the Twins' season this year.

 

Virtually nobody will be predicting them to finish anywhere but 4th or 5th, so even being 8-12 games over .500 early in the season, that's not going to be enough unless they are just throttling everyone and pulling 5-7 games ahead in the division. With our lack of offense, it's hard to imagine that happening, so that means the defense and bullpen must be extraordinary to win a bunch of 1 and 2 run games.

 

That seems inconceivable right now. The ghosts of 2012 are too close as well...with all the accumulated skepticism towards that team/manager getting rolled over to future teams. Except, instead of Detroit, it will be the Royals, Twins or Indians that will be waiting in the weeds to blow us away in the 2nd half.

 

At any rate, if they followed the same exact track as the Twins this year, they MIGHT get about half their lost attendance (due to season ticket holders throwing in the towel) back but would still finish behind 2015, meaning 27th/28th/29th/30th in the league.

 

And that's the sort of optimistic, 3-7 games over .500 for most of the year and peaking at 10-12 games over version.

 

Without major changes, we're not going to have that team until 2017.

The biggest purpose of those moves, of course, was opening up California for MLB.

Revenues should have risen to the middle teens to meet the offseason growth of season ticket plans sold this year.

The White Sox have a long term sweetheart lease and have been one of the most profitable teams in baseball the last 25 years. THEY AREN'T GOING TO MOVE.

It would be a 28-2 vote turning that move down so it would never happen
