Cameron has the White Sox bringing back Alexei Ramirez on a 1 year deal for $6 million. He also has them signing Howie Kendrick, Chris Young (OF), Alex Avila, and Mat Latos.

His vision of our OF doesn't make sense. Cabrera/Eaton/Garcia... Thompson and Young? We don't need Chris Young, especially at his suggested price.

I agree on Kendrick. I think it's long-term foolish, but if they truly want to go at it again, upgrading at 2b is easy pickings offensively.

 

I really would like to have us experiment with instead of trying to improve our offense, doing everything possible to help our SP succeed and hope for the best on offense. It didn't work for the mariners, but it increase the value of our SP in a trade and I think would have a greater "lighting strikes" quality to it if some guys have random career years.

The only move I would do is the Alexei deal. Only way I sign Latos is if one of our starting pitchers is traded.

 

The other 3 I have no interest in because of age, fit with the club, or injury prone.

Not at $48 million for three years when we already have three young/cheap potential starters at that position.

 

If he was a catcher, younger SS (Desmond), RF/LF or third baseman instead, then it would make a LOT more sense.

 

 

If JR had the cojones, he would dump LaRoche and sign Chris Davis and pray. But the odds of that happening in the offseason are miniscule. Thus, no Davis. And certainly no $100 million contract for a very good but not great Upton.

Right on with Kendrick. He's a good player but I'm not certain he makes sense for the Sox.

 

That dovetails into the rest of your post too. I've been flip-flopping in my head about all the different directions the team can go this offseason, and at the moment I'm leaning towards keeping it as young as possible. There's no easy path to competitiveness for the Sox. They'll need surprise years out of a lot of people, which is absolutely possible and happens all the time. I think just that's almost as likely to happen if they play a bunch of guys currently in the org who can chase down a ball than if they jack up payroll on players in the mold of what Cameron suggests and trade Quintana.

If the front office could make that dream come true, they could skip Kendrick. Upton and Davis would make the Sox offense formidable enough, that they could live with Sanchez at 2ND, in order to solidify the defense.

Sure, for roughly $200 million...or the current going rate for one of Greinke, Heyward or David Price.

 

 

And I'm still not sure with how inconsistent Davis has been....along with buying high again. 2014 should scare everyone to death when you talk about the potential biggest contract in Sox history by a decent margin.

I kinda hate going after a 2nd basemen with Micah and Sanchez here, but if the Sox are indeed trying to go for it, Kendrick makes a lot of sense. Getting a guy who can get on base at a fairly good rate in the 2 spot could pay dividends to the lineup.

9 years in the AL, 1 in the NL. Can we please drop this whole "don't sign NL players because they fail in the AL" crap. It's really tired and not true. Just because it happened a couple teams doesn't mean it will happen to a completely different player who plays a completely different position.

How old is Howie Kendrick? It seems like he was with the Angels forever. This reeks of Orlando Hudson.

Sure, but that was a long time ago and it doesn't seem like it'd factor into a guy like Cameron's predictions. It's not like he's picking us to sign Clayton Richard or Michael Morse multiple times.

It was due to all those Phil Rogers articles.

 

Unfortunately it didnt help much with Granderson, Kipnis or Zobrist, three more local products.

 

We did get Shark, though. That was cool until the regular season actually started.

If we were to spend $40 million this off season, we would target at least one higher end player. I still think our big move this winter will be via trade.
