Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets

Featured Replies

Finnnneeeeee... For one of the first times ever I'm going to put faith into Mibelt Rodriguez .... only cause I like to dream.

I've said since Christmas I'd go higher AAV for shorter contract. At that point I said Gordon 4/90 and Cespedes for 5/110. I'd still be okay with this. Things have changed, but still don't see YO settling for under 5 years.

If I had to guess percentage wise?

Angels 50%

CWS 15%

STL 10%

Other 25%

Obviously all guesses.

Hypothetically, if Cespedes' camp told the White Sox FO that they would accept a deal exactly like Upton's, would the Sox do it? Would you guys as fans be ok with it if they did?

No chance they will go to 6 years on Cespedes and they shouldn't. That's too long of a commitment.

I'm in the minority, but I don't want Cespedes because he's not going to matter anyway.

Without him, I think we finish between 3rd-5th in the division. With him, I think we can win the division. He's a 4-6 win player that brings presence to this lineup that strikes fear into pitchers.

I may be the only one who asked so far...but who the f*** is Mibelt Rodriguez?

A guy who consistently makes up stuff & is never right.

This is a good way to look at it: Your 3-4-5 hitters could be Abreu, Frazier, LaRoche or Abreu, Frazier, Cespedes. He would make the middle of the lineup so much better.

a great question,

in ref to yrs, no way,

but lets say 4 yrs and the same salary..... i just don't know. again i am at a impasse on this, i have stated that before..............

i will have to give way to the sox FO.....

Agreed, unless there is some bizarro contract structure that protects both sides somehow. The Sox have been known to be creative.

I just hope he signs somewhere very soon...like today.

great post.

however lets look at this little correction. ref the bold, this is a big assumption for him to come back to a player he once was.

the second one is with ceps is something to be in awe of, if all things goes right.

Does 4/90 get it done?

I would think so, but that all depends on what other teams may offer. There are fewer teams now, and I think it could be down to the Mets and Sox. However, who knows.

i wish i remembered..... but someone posted the idea of a 2 yrs guarantee with 2 yrs mutual option. with a buyout of some kind.

this would be ideal ..... for me.

He's copying that Mets blog clearly.

Are we going to start posting incarceratedbobs reports on here too?

Make no mistake, Cespedes makes this team better by a good amount. I would say this is as close to a "must sign" as possible. So what if they overpay for him a bit? They have cost controlled pitched & have great deals on Eaton & Abreu as well. Just make it happen.

Angels have to be in on it too, their LF platoon is awful right now, and though Moreno fears the luxury tax they do have a ton of money coming off the books after 2016, so they would just have to take the tax hit for one year.

I would think that it would be either LaRoche or Melky in the mix of 3-4-5. I threw LaRoche in there assuming that he'll rebound somewhat. Hell, if LaRoche hits like he used to AND the Sox sign Cespedes, the offense would be very potent.

How do we know there are fewer teams? Every time we think this, more teams show up.

KC was done with Gordon, Det was too broke to get Cespedes, Miami wasn't supposed to get Chen, Col already had 3 OF'ers & still signed Parra.

At this point, narrowing it down to a few teams has proved to be pretty off.

Right now, we need to assume the Sox are one of 5-10 teams on him, whether it's logical or not.

now watch out, you are now sounding a lot like me, esp in some of my last yrs post.

i will admit this.

i am indifferent b/c i am not sold on him. i do not know why, that is why will defer to the sox FO.

i am guilty of my opinion on this one.

If this were a different situation I would be more patient but they've botched a rebuild, traded 3 top 10 prospects for 2 players with 2 years of control & now are watching teams in their own division get better.

They've made the commitment to go "all in", so they need to carry it out. That's my mindset.

right....

and i do hope laroche does rebound.

but who will be #2????

I suppose we don't know how many teams are in the hunt. My point was that Baltimore and Detroit were two teams that we all were worried about, and they have since signed others. Plus, with the Davis and Upton contracts being long-term, I believe Cespedes is still wanting a longer term deal. If the Mets will truly not go past 3 years, they may be out. If the Sox will go to 4 years AND pay the higher AAV, maybe they are in good shape. Unless Cespedes decides to take a short deal (1 or 2 years), I would think the Sox and Angels may be the true front runners.

Most people thought KC was going to sign Gordon, everyone knew the Tigers were in on the Big 3 the entire offseason, Rosenthal tweeted about Miami's interest in Chen on December 1st. There were no surprises there.

Alright, goodnight:

The Washington #Nats and Houston #Astros, each who had expressed interest in Justin Upton, may now turn their attention to Yoenis Cespedes.

Did they ever say anything about going "all in" though? Hahn mentioned that it's likely that they'd be adding an OF and that they weren't satisfied with the offense yet. It was also reported that the White Sox would be interested in the OF's on their terms. Then all of a sudden, fans started assuming that they'd be handing out 5-6 contracts which is just not happening. If Cespedes takes a 4 year deal, I think the White Sox are in this. If het gets 5-6, they won't be and they will move on to other options.
