Heading to Key West next week. Not sure if there is really much for my kids to do while down there other than the beach, the aquarium and the resort.

 

Have anyone ever been there and taken kids? Any recommendations?

Heading east this year. Monticello for the July 4th Naturalization service then up to Maine, across Canada (probably) and down to Chicago.

That area of this country is so nice. A few years I saw 2 games at Fenway, drove up to NH then ME and then down through Newport, RI. If I go back it'll be one of those fall cruises to Canada or one that leaves for Bermuda in summer

Not taken kids, but I've been. Honestly KW isn't known for beaches, as dumb as that may sound. Aside from Ft.Zachary the other "beaches" there suck. I had a friend that moved there to work at a hotel and afterwards I asked him about beaches and he said "you went to Ft. Zachary? You saw the best." We went to Kermits and got some great key lime snacks and you can do a jet ski tour around the island for $65 a person. Now THAT was f***ing awesome.

 

 

BTW, really hope you're not spending too long there. Beautiful place but not enough to do there for a week

These Vegas resort fees are ridiculous. My great price of $179/night quickly turns into $245/night when you add taxes, resort fees, and taxes on the resort fees.

I had a friend that moved there to work at a hotel and afterwards I asked him about beaches and he said "you went to Ft. Zachary? You saw the best." We went to Kermits and got some great key lime snacks and you can do a jet ski tour around the island for $65 a person. Now THAT was f***ing awesome.

We just got back yesterday after a five day trip. It winded up being a nice trip.

 

The kids enjoyed Smathers beach which was definitely not the best beach out there but the kids didnt really care, plus they seen a sting ray floating around right next to them so they thought that was awesome.

 

We did the aquarium, Hemmingways house (kids loved all the cats), shipwreck museum, train ride, Butterfly conservatory, and the resort. If we spent one more day there it would have been too long because I think we did everything you could with two kids under 5, but for what we did do, it was a nice place.

Miscounted the days I'm on vacation. Came up a day short on socks. Have to get a second day out of a pair.

Leaving for Cabo this weekend. We have a timeshare/resort thing that we'll spend most of the time at but was wondering if anyone had recommendations for other things to do. excursions/cool bars/tacos/etc?

I really want to go to Vegas multiple times this year: once with a big group of people (a few first timers to introduce them to it) and once by myself so I can just gamble and meet people and do stuff I want to do and not have to worry about waiting on others. Anyone ever go to Vegas (or anywhere) by themselves leisurely? I have a friend who loves doing that based on the reasons I gave.

As discussed in the job thread, I took a road trip east last year by myself for 10 days. Doing the same thing this year, 14 days, going west to the pacific and back. Renting a car and doing it with certain stops mapped out but nothing booked besides the car until day of or day before. I honestly really enjoyed doing it by myself and a lot of my friends and coworkers thought it was crazy. I love vacationing with other people and all that stuff too, but it's pretty damn awesome being able to do whatever the f*** i want at any time and listen to whatever I want in the car along the way.

 

I pretty much just belly up at a bar/restaurant every where I go and usually end up in a conversation with a bartender or somebody around me and you meet people and get cool recommendations. Doing it last year was one of the coolest experiences of my life, I can't recommend it enough. You could also choose to wall yourself off and stay secluded, to each their own. There's something very refreshing about not having to make anyone else happy but yourself.

Gotta hit the casino's up on Fremont Street. I was there summer of 2013 and had a blast on my own. A cold IPA in hand and just randomly walking into casino's, bars, and checking out the live bands.

Anyone know of any cheap hotels/casinos to stay at while I'm there? I've come across and have seen advertisements for rooms around $35 a night (during the week) but I'm searching now and can't really find anything. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

That's what I'm saying haha it sucked because I wanted to keep gambling since I kept winning (left Vegas with few thousand extra in pocket) and it sucked that I kept getting pulled away haha

For sure. But I feel a few months I looked, I was finding places on the strip for like $35 a month. I had heard it's really cheep during the week as opposed to the weekends just to get people out there during the week and gambling.

If I went to Vegas myself I'd probably do Fremont over the strip. So much easier to casino hop, it's cheaper to gamble, and the pools are not as crazy busy/requiring reservations for seating.

Wow, found a deal for Vegas where you can stay at the Linx for $40 a night through Groupon. Right on the strip. Not bad.

Unless you paid for the more expensive fare class that allows you free changes, it will most likely cost you a change fee. You can always give them a call and give it a shot. Or the day of the flight, you can usually check online to see if there are open seats on the 530 flight. If there are, try to show up earlier and get on standby for that one.

Basically some version of that as part of geology trips, but not a family version.

The one thing about that trip (my family went when I was probably a few years older) is to find ways to get out of the car often. Parts of that trip can be pretty long for a little guy.

Spent one night in Sioux Falls and one night in Deadwood along the way. The badlands were really cool and you can basically spend a day there. Mount Rushmore was fun, especially if you're into history. Get ready for all the "Wall Drug" ads along the highway. I saw so many that i was annoyed and refused to stop for it. I enjoyed the little casinos in Deadwood and the way the town looks. $5 Blackjack keeps me pretty happy with beers on the house haha

My cousin goes to Vegas by himself every once in awhile. Is that weird?
