  1. People freaking out about Burger taking reps at 2B in personal offseason workouts when his natural position is very much blocked are comical. Relax people. He’s just doing what he can to get himself big league reps. Chances he’s ever anything but an emergency 2B are remote.

  2. That was the dumbest football game I've ever watched.

  3. I liked what I saw of Hill vs Boston. Just wondering what Jordan Bell did or didn't do to not get a longer look, considering their desperate need for size. Hope the over fondness for 6'6 guys masquerading as PF doesn't haunt them down the stretch.

  4. I'd just like to add that the Sox were one hot Lance McCullers away from their defense being THE reason they failed in 2021. The glaring issue was mainly controlling the run game but I'm very hesitant to fill any of our three obvious openings (2B, RF, Backup C) with anything less than an above average defender.

  5. They really felt that running up the middle with fourteen seconds left and no timeouts was the correct call

  6. I'm on record with my concern/interest to see if/how he can adjust defensively to meet the requirements to play 2B. Let him get the reps in the off-season to see what he can do, can't hurt. Setting aside all rational thought now and jumping on the positive feedback loop, I now fully expect him to be the next Max Muncy that can play every infield position and mash as a big guy. Don't let me down, Max! Er, Jake!

  7. That post fake punt thing just made no sense, that was the Cowboys being stupid again. They weren’t going to snap the ball to their punter with no QB on the field. Half their team was standing there staring at the sidelines, the punter wandered from the QB spot to a slot receiver spot and seemed to have no idea what he was doing there. Seriously those screwups in that game were all the Cowboys. You want to complain about the ignored whistle in the Raiders game you have a point, but those Cowboys plays were just dumb by the cowboys. If you need every second then you can’t rely on the speed of a ref running 25 yards and then maneuvering through your O line with no hole made for him. If you haven’t practiced that, then don’t call a QB run up the middle! If you’re trying to pull off a trick play like that then every single person needs to know exactly what to do and you have to think through how to make it work correctly with the rules.

  10. Everybody has listened to Les. Fifty years plus on the scene. Les was solid and a bit humorous at the same time. Vaya con Dios Les.

  13. No that’s on Dak. The Ref has to touch the ball by rule, which means he needs a path through the line. The ball was in position because Dak gave the ball to the center, not the ref himself. That said, the bigger mistake was not running towards the sideline. You have to run out of bounds there and I think he had a shot.

  14. Are 2nd base and RF weak spots, or are they the only places where Sox don't have an all-star or Silver Slugger candidate? Potential all-stars/ Silver Sluggers: Catcher, check: 1st base, check; shortstop, check; 3rd base, check; LF, check; centerfield, check. So that leaves only RF and 2nd. Vaughn had an OPS of .938 vs lefties last year (rookie year) and Sheets had an OPS of .900 vs. righties last year, also as a rookie. Both were competent in the field. Again both were rookies and should show significant improvement in 2nd year (You know like Moncada and Robert). So, to label a RF hybrid of those two as a weakness going into next year is just not true. Are they all-star/ Silver Slugger candidates? No, but far from weaknesses. Well, maybe defensively, but as someone said earlier on this thread, the move now is to sacrifice defense to get big offense in the line up. I agree with that. Now as for maybe Burger at 2nd base, that's a pretty electric bat, so far from all indications. He might struggle there on defense (let's fine out), but again, is 2nd base really that more difficult than 3rd; let's get that bat in the line up; it has a much higher ceiling than Garcia or anyone else I can imagine the Sox getting.

  15. From what little I saw last year, right-handed or not, I want the Burger bat in the Sox line up. I think 2nd base is possibly a great way to make that happen. I can’t believe 2nd base is that much more difficult than 3rd base. Get that bat in the line up. I’m sure when Moncada was moved to 3rd, people were complaining about how that was a cheap fill-in that would never work. Turn out pretty well. Another thing, I am confident that the Sox can get to the World Series with some sort of Sheets/ Vaughn/ Engel hybrid in RF. That’s not where I think money should be spent. Pitching, especially starting pitching, is where the Sox need to spend FA money. I have no confidence in Keuchel, and little confidence in Kopech.
