It's very impactful, but you need to get the ball to him first. They really need a SP first and foremost to have any chance at a deep playoff run. We all remember how disastrous 2020 was in Oakland. Burke + SP + Martin is at least a playoff rotation you can feel somewhat comfortable/confident against the AL.

Liriano earned $5.5 million that season. Obviously they gave up too much talent in Eduardo Escobar, but the Sox only had to pick up $2.1 million of Liriano’s money for the remainder of the season. The Sox picked up $27 million remaining on Shields’ contract.

It worked well for James Shields. He still got paid the rest of his contract.

And it’s going to cost Bonemer…unless for some reason they believe in Schultz and Hagen, but that just digs an even deeper hole in the rotation. Guess you could also get Buehler Vasquez Giolito Waldron thrown in, but not sure if that really solves anything rotationally.
