Sox the "front-runners" for Imai
Chicago White Sox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nope, hits to hard to home unfortunately. -
You don’t think Getz is going to watch his boss Vecna in his final appearance?

Tonight most likely is my guess. Thankfully Getz has no New Year’s Eve parties to attend and doesn’t watch Stranger Things like other GMs. -

I said with the right additions (including Imai), the right breakout performances, and some luck they could sniff the final playoff spot. And I stand by that claim. -
It would be the first time a team did it 4 seasons in a row in 90 years.

White Sox sign Jarred Kelenic, non-roster invite
Dick Allen replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As bad as Benintendi is, Kelenic is a downgrade. -
FWIW, news of Imanaga's signing came out 3 days before his deadline. Imai is closer to his deadline than that (plus the additional factor of the holiday), so it really feels like something should be imminent.
-
If they lose 100 games again next season, that would be a failure of epic proportions.
-
To be fair, that’s only a 3 win improvement over last season! Doable, and it only took three entire seasons of putridity.

Looking at the history of public funding for stadiums, I find it hard to believe Kansas isn’t going to lose money on the deal, and a ton of it. But they get the Chiefs. -

What's far fetched is you talking about the 2026 white sox as contenders. Let's just try not to lose 100 games first. -
Someone had asked what the posting fee for Imai would be, either in this thread or another. Here’s the answer and why Murakami’s $34 million dollar contract had a posting fee of $6.575 million (20% of first $25 million + 17.5% of remaining $9 million). https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/12/the-best-fits-for-tatsuya-imai.html

They did say Imai has to take a physical with whatever team he signs with so they think we should hear news of where he is signing possibly within the next 24 hours. But yeah, Robert Murray didn’t think the White Sox are likely.

During a lockout, players can only receive payments for pre-existing obligations like deferred money, signing bonuses, or option buyouts. They don’t receive their regular season salaries.

I don’t think that’s how a CBA works -
If we are trying to be reasonably competitive this year, maybe we should just keep him as he will be better, even in 100 games than whoever is likely to be the replacement. If we don't care about winning this year, I'd just take Petty straight up for Robert plus like 8m or so pitched in. I don't think endlessly haggling for this pick and minor league corner OF (if reports from questionable sources are true) is really worth it if in fact the market is that bad. I realize there is still alot of time left in the offseason, but at some point other teams will address needs elsewhere and then we will get screwed again. I don't think Getz is going to get one over on Stearns either, they can easily write a check to solve any problem.
-
It’s going to pay off in the end…
-
And yet we brought him back. Again.
-
Well, we only keep hearing about the same two teams’ supposed interest (Reds and Mets) and a deal hasn’t been made in those two years so that likely tracks.

The market is the market at the end of the day. They got a better deal and they took it which is a rational decision, so as much as i despise the Chiefs, it was the proper move. The public or their elected representatives have to make that cost/benefit analysis. The taxpayers rarely come out ahead but there's only 32 of these teams out there and these communities have to decide how much or how little they value having one. Thankfully, the owners of my NFL team are rich enough with all that Walmart money that they are just writing a 2-4 billion dollar check for the new stadium on a private basis and not asking the public to pitch in. -
He keeps saying they want to trade Robert but the market for him has been awful for two years

It’s a family business. His father is the VP and they are co-owners. They have an entire staff running the day-to-day operations. -
