I don't know that it has anything to do with being cheap. Everyone needs a 4th/5th OF, which Doyle is , other than one good outlier year on offense. Hill is the same player, pulled off of the waiver wire. they then dump Hill for basically nothing, and a couple of months later, trade for the same kind of player in Doyle. To be fair, these kind of trades plus his waiver pickups have been an overall positive. But perhaps Getz can just slow down a little and stop the zig-zagging.

Well, they already did that with Curtis Mead, Tristan Peters and Miguel Vargas, as far as maxing out their offensive potential. We act like, "Oh, noes, they traded the one guy they could have used to trade for somebody," as if that's the only surprise minor league guy who will come along. I think they have at least 4-6 guys like that from Kannapolis on up who have a similar value to Boston Smith. The TDL is nuts, and it sure sounds like the asking for guys like Detmers was way out there. It is possible Getz wasn't the only suitor for Castillo.

If only Vasil didn't get injured in ST. The Sox elite BP would even be better.
