I posted that in the central thread last night. They have a really fucking easy bullshit schedule and on paper have the most talent in the division. I think they hold onto Skubal and just take the comp pick, but I just read that if they go into lux tax with any additions, and they are close payroll wise, that pick goes to 4th round -- at least under current CBA. Who knows how that will look after the lockout. Regardless, Tigers are still a threat.

I wonder if the Mariners would do a minor deal for Hays or Pereria, whoever they like more, in return for a reliever of our choice. Mariners have a 77 wRC+ out of RF this year, Hays is projected by zips for 97. If they want someone a little younger but less proven Pereria is projected for 93. Assuming both guys are healthy they'd be an upgrade for them against LHP. Their part time RF, Luke Raley has a 51 wRC+ against LHP. Our target would likely be Eduard Lazardo, who would slot in as our 7th inning guy most nights depending on matchups. He's been a bit lucky with strand rate, but would arguably be our 2nd best righty out of the pen behind Taylor. Mariners would probably want an A ball lotto ticket as well, maybe two. Or we could send them some cash and a PTBNL. 2 million would pickup the rest of hays' salary.

Saw a stat about just how truly bad the Sox catchers have been with ABS. Can’t wait for them to upgrade over Quero/Romo in the next ten days.

The team I'm most worried about in the Central right now is the fing Tigers. They have a very easy schedule the rest of the way which includes their next 9 games being KC for 3, Baltimore for 3, and the A's for 3. That combined with the Sox having during the same time Houston for 3, Yankees for 4, Rays for 3, and Red Sox for 3. If the Sox have any kind of losing streak in this next 13 game stretch the Tigers could possibly make up a lot of ground quickly.

The next 16 games will tell a lot. The Yankees series will have all their best pitchers lined up in order, that will be a real test.

As a catcher, he has probably made those motions 10,000 times when you combine games, practices, drills, etc. There was nothing extraordinary about the move, except for the stuck cleat. If it wasn't the cleat, Teel has way bigger problems, because his body is not made for catching then.

From what I’ve read, ETFE paneling excels at climate control, especially in cold-weather conditions, for fixed-roof stadiums. The Minnesota Vikings’ U.S. Bank stadium is living proof. I’m not sure if ETFE is applicable for modular purposes, though.

Ok. I read your entire “creative writing exercise” and all it did was give me a headache. Who has ever even suggested trading Cholowsky? Nobody has and it isn’t even possible. I think the most likely route they go is the best route: Hang onto all of our top prospects while getting a defensive catcher, a rental SP like Clay Holmes who is coming off injury, and a bullpen arm that won’t break the bank. That would be a fantastic outcome and it’s also fun to consider other directions where they swing a lot of top assets for controllable A team type big leaguers. Those two angles are about as far as I want to travel down the mental gymnastics course for now.

In certain situations including any time a base is open..yes. Then I would add a few unintentional/intentional walks and just pitch around him. Try not to let this guy beat you with a HR with men on base. Then a few high and tight pitches to back him off the plate. It's going to be tough.

Since the ballparks in Houston and Seattle are now over 25 years old, I wonder if there have been recent advances in innovative design and materials for a retractable roof stadium that could provide for both an open view of the skyline and access to the river? The Sox would probably need a little more protection from the cold for early season games than a T-Mobile Park design would provide, but they don't need to necessarily make the place totally climate controlled to 72 degrees all summer long like in Houston. Just day dreaming as there's still a few hours to go until first pitch tonight.

Arrighetti had a very rough June (9 ERA over 5 starts) but has limited the damage to 1 ER in two of his last 3 starts. When he gets in trouble, it’s usually due to a mix of walks (16 over his last 5 starts) and homers (9 in his last 5). He’s allowing a .384 OBP to lefties, and has been worse on the road (5.52 ERA) than at home (3.05). He throws a kitchen sink mix headlined by a good curveball (39% whiff rate, .181 xBA against). Sits 92-93 on the 4 seamer that he throws 29% of the time to mixed results (.292xBA, .556 xSLG). Would be a nice day for the Sox to slug a few into the seats and limit the impact of the best hitter in the league on the other side. Could be a big homestand if Mune/Colson can catch a heater.

I would guess Fauske is the most likely "big name" trade bait when Getz is shopping for a deadline upgrade. He's got some helium from his solid season but he's years away from contributing to the major league team and he does not have the ceiling of Carlson.
