I just find it hilarious that Soxtalk couldn't wait to demote and move on from Edgar Quero because he was "so bad" yet he has the same fWAR as Brenton Doyle since September 1st of last year and Quero has played more games, so Doyle has been even worse.

I also see two bad catchers, but all the metrics say Romo is superior at defense. Quero is ranked 66/71 of qualified catchers in blocks above average per statcast at -6, Romo is 28/71 at zero BAA. I'll add that if you pay attention Quero gets shaken off probably a dozen plus times a game, I'm pretty sure he has zero clue wtf he's doing back there.

Any idiot can look up the 2nd half stats on baseball Reference that will show that 56 game period they talked about which included a scorching hot August and bad September. I guess any idiot can't read though. Quero has 3 extra base hits in 170 at bats and a worse OPS+ than Romo, are his handful of singles in the past week really making up for the chasm in their defensive abilities? Quero is very possibly the worst catcher in the sport and affects the pitch calling because he can't be trusted to block a slider in the dirt. Until he can prove in AAA that he can do that, I never want to see him again.

Center Field defense is key. Pereira could not cover CF. I am not going to panic because Peters has been in a slump. I think he has been over-aggressive, kind of like Colson, and has to make some adjustments. Take a few pitches here and there, learn how to defend the plate with 2 strikes, go oppo or to get a longer look at the pitch, and cut down the swing. Whatever, Sox have a hitting coach. Meanwhile, Peters is a gazelle in the outfield. I don't care about slumps and splits, he has to be out there almost every game.

Wow - that’s wild then. Ray wasn’t someone I really thought fit well with our ballpark - so I’m not upset. It also seems to me that the Sox decided that rather than needing two starting pitchers, they trust what they’ve seen from Schultz and Thorpe. Here’s to hoping they were right.

I just don't think its that big of a financial risk. The Sox added $13.5M to their payroll (in both 26 & 27 combined) with the Castillo trade. That is literal mice nuts in the MLB terms.

Boston - oddly enough - has better road splits. They’ve been playing to a sub .500 clip at home. Obviously they’ve been the hotest team in the universe but hopefully we play them better than when they were in Chicago kicking out ass. Yeah, it’s a fine buy low move, but is odd timing and potentially problematic for a playoff push. Our bench now has two incredibly weak RH hitters in Doyle & Acuna plus a question mark in Grichuk. Despite certain flaws, Pereira was very useful against LHP. We could find ourselves highly exposed against lefties down the stretch and into the playoffs now.

In 2025 July that year he hit .327 and in August he hit 7 home runs and .319. I’d say he was figuring it out and putting the loss of his son past him. You’re including his stats from this year when he was playing through injury and are omitting what he did in AAA. It’s obvious that he has had his struggles and I’ve illustrated those specifically in previous posts. They are similar things Vargas dealt with ( raising his hands, lift and pull, better swing decisions )… There’s reasons for confidence because he showed capable of doing that in 2024. I think it’s completely legitimate that a personal tragedy and pressing last year explains initial struggles… and his injuries this year are behind him. He’s the exact profile of player that should benefit from Fuller and his gold glove defense from 23 to 25 was the best in baseball by some metrics. If you can’t see the reasons for optimism and understand why they took this risk and only want to focus on what he did wrong for a period of time, then you must have had a hard on for Mason Adams that’s blinding you or something. 😆 It’s not a sure thing slam dunk but there are many reasons that you should understand what they’re going for here.

At some point an adult has to be in the room and make the call that while we understand you like throwing to Romo, he currently puts the offense at a deficit. And let’s be honest here, he has not been helping with those challenges
