Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
I mean with his TJS and all, he's a dude who wasn't really going to do anything until next year at the soonest. I get dealing him now, I just don't get THIS being the deal for him.

George shouldn’t get comfortable

As I posted elsewhere, I’d feel better if he was sent to AAA. Until I know the plan, I assume most players that contenders add at the deadline and who cost meaningful prospects are intended for the major league roster.

This is still a Jerry owned team afterall. It absolutely matters

No they won't.

Yep and it’s taking quite the risk assuming someone will pitch better leaving a pitcher’s park (with great pitching development) for a hitter’s park.

Maybe Peters slipped in the shower and broke a toe or something? This just doesn’t make sense, even with Peters’ decline. His decline still isn’t as bad as Doyle’s past two seasons. Brutal.

I guess Doyle has options? So he might go down and work on things

He might be selling insurance in a couple years after pitching in Coors Field.

If we raise our payroll by 50% next offseason, Castillo will represent about 1/6 of it in total. Let’s not pretend it’s not a meaningful amount of money.

Giving him at bats to rest peters is not super risky. You may not like it because the player hasn’t been good this season but it’s not super risky. I feel like people are conflating risk with personal approval, and it’s not the same thing. Doyle isn’t coming in to supplant the center fielder, he is coming in because they are concerned that the backups are not good enough

Some people were worried about trading the strikeout king Wolkow. I would have preferred to trade him all day over Adams.

This trade mystifies me. I get moving Adams. He was about to be a 40 man casualty anyway. I just don't understand why they'd want Doyle of all people. In Fuller We Trust, I guess?

Or more than the handful of guys he will replace

Rockies don't need Doyle, so trade him to White Sox. Can't wait for 6 pm Eastern.

Brenton Doyle in the mix.
Maybe, he hit well in his rehab and his first two games back in the majors continued that trend, so hopefully the injuries are behind him.

It’s just a really bad trade when you can’t even be confident that the player you got back will help the team more for even this year than the prospect you traded. Just an awful use of resources.

Doyle isn't making money and has minor league options. We don't even know if he's going to be in Chicago. If the risk is that the Sox can't resist giving bad players at bats, then there's nothing that can be done to save them.

Thank you. People really don’t get it. And… I still STRONGLY believe we are getting a catcher and another SP.

Like I said earlier, after 8 or so, the system is as bad as any

For Doyle I think yes. Are we giving a dude who hasn’t hit a lick in two years all the CF at-bats against RHP moving forward? This guy has been Romo levels of bad with the bat. Fixing him won’t be easy in a part time role and during a playoff push and could further exaggerate our problems against LHP. Castillo is less of a risk to current year results and just more of a gamble. My point is when fighting for a playoff spot you typically prioritize guys you are confident can help you win and not reclamation projects. I’m more optimistic they can “fix” Castillo to some extent, just don’t think the value equation made a lot of sense and would have preferred someone with a better floor or ceiling.

Luis Castillo isn’t gonna sink the payroll flexibility if he pitches shitty. This is “if you are scared then get a dog” s%*#. He is coming to be a 3rd starter at best(which could change if they get another pitcher)

Other teams are trading their 20th+ prospects and here we are trading guys who could be top 10 in a pretty good system

No, he thinks he’s a switch hitter again.
