  2. I can't help but think, with as little stuff as there is around the baseball experience, what exactly are they losing? I mean if you work at the park, you can still work at the park 2.5 miles away. There isn't some big ballpark experience of shops that depend on the team, which is the whole point of trying to actually create a ballpark village. I know there are a few shops around the team, but it isn't anything like other teams, and I feel like they are trying to have two things be true at once, which can't.
  3. Can't a neighborhood stand on its own? I mean...there are plenty of neighborhoods in Chicago that don't have a professional sports team located in it...that are destinations for a night out or a place to hang! Sure I get nostalgic when I think of my grandfather taking me to games at 35th and Shields in the 70s-90s...but time marches on! Nostalgia is not going to slow Ishbia down...nor should it! NOTE: Lip - those aren't questions aimed at you...more at the topic/feel of Sullivan's column.
  4. Reinsdorf's original 78 plan renderings showed Rate Field being converted to a soccer stadium. It didn't mention any team by name but presumably it could have been for the Fire and/or Stars. This was before the Fire announced their own plans to build on the 78. The Stars are still looking for a permanent home, so theoretically yes, that could happen. I don't know where the money would come from to turn it into a soccer stadium, though.
  5. Pirates are also the last team we want to play now. They have underperformed their X w-l record due to a shaky bullpen but they are starting to catch fire.
  6. From Paul Sullivan's column today: Bridgeport BluesNo one from Bridgeport wants the Sox to leave Bridgeport and turn it into a virtual ghost town. Unfortunately, Ishbia lives on the North Shore, not Bridgeport, and has no nostalgia for the neighborhood that’s been home to the Sox for 116 years. If the Sox and Illinois Sports Facilities Authority had allowed bars and restaurants to be built around the new ballpark 35 years ago, as late Gov. Jim Thompson originally promised at McCuddy’s, Bridgeport would now be like River North and the team wouldn’t have to move to draw more fans.
  7. Yeah, C & G. Would have to imagine that at a minimum portions of those lots would be closed off.
  8. If Gonzales was at 3B as he usually is, I doubt he catches that liner. He’s 6 inches shorter than Triolo.
  9. I hope you're right. This team has done this s%*# my entire life though. Hard to be excited after the last 5 years of disappointment and letdowns.
  10. The take out slide is an accepted part of baseball. Elbows the crotch are not. At that point you are just asking to get one of your guys hurt for not even a real baseball play.
  11. Today

  12. Fear not, Paulie, slumps and bad breaks can shift in an instant; honestly I think they're going to be fine!
  13. I am not a proponent of attempting to injure another teams player to rile up your team. I would argue that deliberately rolling over the 2nd basement is even more "fake tough" than the chicken wing, because at that point you're being very irresponsible with your baseball moves. We don't need to be actually dirty, just enough to ruffle some feathers.
  14. The play IS baby soft. If you want dirty, roll the fielder on the slide like a real baseball play. This is fake tough. Like I am trying, but also not. It's like sticking your leg out on a screen. There is a right way to do things and trying to wing someone isn't it. Be better.
  15. You do it because your team needs a spark and maybe a benches clearing nothingburger provides that spark. He wasn't trying to hurt anyone or actually make it a tough play. He seems to do this stuff when we're getting steamrolled, first against Boston now against these guys. This team needs to wake the f*** up. With a little extra luck, we are tying that game or taking the lead (On Meidroth's .800 xBA line drive) AFTER Sam did this. It did seem to provide a spark. Let's not be soft as baby s%*# about this and understand that sometimes you just gotta get your hands dirty when you're competing in sports. And what Sam did isn't even that flagrant. Just enough to start a conversation and some mild yelling to clear the benches.
  16. My question with Thorpe as well.. Seems like relatively poor roster management at the end of the season.
  17. Like it or not it seemed to ignite the team and the offense enough to look like they were actually trying near the end of that game. Sometimes you need a spark. It is what it is. Can't let feelings get in the way.
  18. I believe one of the Varland HRs was against the cubs in a make up game I was forced to watch at a work outing.
  19. How has the team performed since this was posted on June 1?
  20. Guessing is the same as the rest of the AAA guys. They are good in AAA, and get their ass kicked in the majors. It's the same thing with Cannon.
  21. If you want to break up a double play, do it like dudes have been doing it for 150 years. Your elbow doesn't need to be around another players crotch for any baseball reason.
  22. Caminero's been on a heater lately. I think they're pretty close just because Caminero is such a bad defender.
  23. Why is Sandlin being wasted in Charlotte.
  24. It was a stupid, unnecessary, and cheap play from a guy who now has a reputation for doing stuff like this. I’m sure we’d all be super cool with someone on the pirates doing the same thing to someone on the Sox.
  25. Again, it's a cheap play. Why do it at all? If you want to affect the play, use a real baseball play and do a take out slide. Why do you need your elbow there in the first place?
  26. We watched the replay. He hit him in the thigh, he might have crazed it at the end but that wasn't his intention
