I understand that, but it's still a reach. They could have picked a similarly ranked player who would sign for slot (see Tampa's pick in the same round). And there were several others. Great draft, yes, but how could it not be with the amount of money they had to spend. But in the end, Shirley did what he always does: he reaches and punts. And you don't have to - it's the way he runs the draft. But everyone (but me) is cool with it. And the other issue to me is that his pitchers are often either low slot and/or funky delivery guys. Is this in line with what Bannister wants?

I think the Sox would be on the hook for his giant contract right? All for it if he gets released.

Hard pass…he’s looked terrible all year. Might be the worst starter in all of baseball this year.

He has been terrible for Cubs this year but only made 2 starts since coming back from his hamstring injury (awful starts). Was solid past two years and shouldn’t be past his prime yet. Could a change of scenery work? I’m not opposed to it given fact we can’t keep running Schultz out there. Or piggy back him with someone else.

Disappointing homestand so far. 1-3 since coming back home. Fixing the away woes weren't supposed to come at the expense of the home success.

Try to win two games or maybe at least one against the depleted Yankee team.

And his real woba is sandwiched between Andrew Benintendi and Jarred Kelenic. Baseball Savant isn't registering that xwoba as statistically significant. Neither is his .200 batting average, right, but more in line with the player that he actually is. An MLB player to be sure, just not a particularly good one.

Singer has an ERA of 4.5, FIP of 5.21 and a WHIP of 1.38. His K rate has been falling. Doesn't really throw a FB. Is he even an upgrade? Don't give up Bonemer, Carlson or Hagen for any of these guys; nobody else does. We didn't get anything in that stratosphere for Cease who was better than everyone mentioned.

Odom and Barrios combine to walk 11 Oakland hitters! Odom walked nine himself in only five innings. July 28, 1985 – He was a record setting pitcher who appeared in over a thousand games in his 21-year career. Hoyt Wilhelm mastered the most difficult pitch ever, the knuckleball and with it he wound up in the Baseball Hall of Fame, inducted on this date. Hoyt spent six years with the White Sox from 1963-68 becoming the dominant relief pitcher of the 1960’s. They need help, but they need to get better beyond a few trades. A lot of sloppy play lately. Judging by the ESPN pitching diagrams, it looks like Schultz was really getting squeezed - not getting any calls on the corners; I don't know whether those diagrams are accurate, but if they are, better framing and/or challenging could help..
