I really wish they would just hand an OF mitt to Sosa and just play him in LF

White Sox sign Jarred Kelenic, non-roster invite
Chicago White Sox replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That I’m not sure of, but will admit it seems a little odd a face value. That being said, how often are guys signed to minor league deals assured major league spots? -

Nobody has to like each other, but all things being equal, a calm clubhouse is better than a distracted clubhouse. Those late 70s Yankees teams went to the world series 4 years out of 6 and won 2. Makes you wonder what they could have achieved if Billy Martin wasn't a drunk and could manage the personalities better. -
MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox
Chicago White Sox replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Similar raw power / bat speed. You’d be gambling on Mead improving his ability to square up more consistently with support from Fuller. Based on his minor league profile, that seems theoretically feasible to me. Obviously I have no idea what the Sox think, but my guess is they have some plan to right the ship with Mead. But if I can’t get anything for Sosa, I’d certainly keep him over Curtis. -

Kelenic speaking on culture is like Mussolini speaking on liberal democracy. -

There has definitely been a thing internally for him for a while now. They are also putting him out front of a lot of stuff for a dude who isn't in their plans. -

I don’t think Kelenic’s new comments or apparent ego are a reason he makes the team. However, this is a total Sox move. Former top prospect with control left at a position where the Sox are lacking once Benintendi is gone and Robert is traded. I think they will give him every opportunity to make the team. I don’t think he’s in a much different boat than Pereira other than being slightly older. Imagine a dirt-cheap outfield of Kelenic, Pereira, and Montgomery for several years. I think Getz is probably fantasizing about it right now. -

While I think there is some truth in his statement, baseball history shows plenty of teams that couldn't stand one another but won because they had great talent. The Oakland A's won three straight World Series titles despite instances like players literally fighting in the clubhouse before a playoff game and then you had the Yankee teams of the late 1970's aka The Bronx Zoo. If I have to choose between character or talent, I'll take talent every time. -

Why do you think that? -
Red Sox finally sign someone from the FA market. They've done a good job assembling a ton of rotation depth this season. Crochet, Suarez, Gray are a great 1-3, bumped Bello all the way down to 4, Oviedo has a lot of breakout potential, and then you have Tolle and Early waiting in the wings.

There is definitely some irony to Kelenic talking about good culture in the clubhouse. 🤣 Hopefully the guy has turned over a new leaf and actually hits with the Sox. He’s still only 26 and God knows we need all the outfield talent we can get with Benintendi and Robert on the way out. But never forget — “…and then his kid passed away…” -

I think people are sleeping a bit on Lee. His arm is legit special. I don’t think he returns a ton, but I think he has more value than Romo and is tradable. -

Is “The 78” Dead? Or even more alive? Fire announce plans for SSS
southsider2k5 replied to soxfan18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And a large portion of it happens if the Sox are there or not, so honestly, it makes more sense to have two teams there to justify the costs for something like 100 nights a year, instead of just the soccer schedule. -

The 78 itself is going to get like a billion in public funds but since it isn't paying for a brick in the stadium, it doesnt count.
