Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)
There are Indian households around the north side, so I semi-regularly see kids cricketing on a playground. That's fun. They probably sit on their bikes outside the back door of their friends' house and just yell their name until they come out.

I am old and useless, but I think the non-Boomers posting would tend to be soccer fans. Growing up I had absolutely no knowledge of soccer at all. We played sandlot baseball games all day until dinner time in the summer, football in the fall, hockey in the winter. If soccer was thing in my youth, we probably would have played pick-up games, we had tons of kids in the neighborhood.

For the first time I have seen Cricket being played while driving past a park in Schaumburg. There is a couple billion people in the world that are Cricket fans.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
I don’t want to go full Caulfield here, but you know Boyer is pushing hard for the Sox to take Roch. Would be an immediate favorite with this fan base.

They still have to do their due diligence in case the guy they want is chosen ahead of them.

It’s really not changing while it’s happening. The excitement is from the world. The US In this and being cheered but let’s not pretend our crowds are into this even 1/5th of the excitement that other nations show. Soccer will remain a distant sidebar in US sports

This conversation happens everytime around the world cup and nothing changes ultimately once it’s over.

Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
I think many here are unfamiliar with what prices have been at the trade deadline as of late. Outside of truly elite rentals or guys with extended control, prices aren’t all that crazy. There is also a wide gap between top 100 prospects and “scrub” prospects. Those guys in between have trade value, but are far from guarantees and don’t automatically mean we are punting the future by trading them. Self scouting is key and trading some of those guys to augment this year’s team is going to be key.

Nah, just a regular Caulfield thread

Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread
I think your assessment is correct. We aren’t going to be happy with the cost of a guy like Chapman. I’d rather trade some scrub prospects for some decent rental relievers, but not a top guy like Chapman. Trading away the future, even Gonzalez, isn’t worth the slim chance that this team goes deep in the postseason… which it won’t anyways because they don’t have the starters needed. I agree with WE and Cali’s opinion here. This is the natural progression of a rebuilding team, and they have jump-started it earlier than expected. I don’t think they are ready yet, but they look to be getting there. I wouldn’t trade anyone that could help them in the near future to chase a postseason dream for this year. This team is still so young. The lineup looks good. The problem is that they still don’t have a good enough rotation, and I have zero hopes that Jerry will spend on one until Ishbia takes over. And you need to sign some FA starting pitching at some point to bolster a championship rotation.

Question: On your #2, do you think Gonzo plus, perhaps some lower level prospects be enough to get a decent reliever or even a rental high leverage guy like Aroldis Chapman from Boston ? I'm not sure I would make that trade, but the back end of the Sox bullpen looks like it may be falling apart. Grant Taylor seemed like the answer as our Closer, but ...I don't know now.

Sandelin had excellent control of his pitches in his first start. In his next start he was aiming and missing the corners and could not get ahead of hitters. As Plesac said ad nauseum, White Sox pitchers have to throw strike one and avoid getting into bad counts. Sandelin has got to do that. His breaking pitch was an effective a strikeout pitch when he got ahead in the count.- Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)
I do not watch soccer, golf, hockey, tennis, ping-pong, or politics, so I don't know much about any of those sports.- Thoughts on selling high on Meidroth?
Nothing wrong with that thought at all. And there are even more variables. Will Mune even be here still after 2027 once Roch is ready? Maybe not. Maybe Vargas is playing 1B after next season? Even if you are a Getz hater, you can’t argue that he hasn’t acquired players with positional flexibility unlike Hahn who loved acquiring positionless turnstile DH’s.- Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)

Then where is the World Cup thread a full two two weeks into the tournament???- Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)
Why would there be a right/left political agenda to a sports poll? That doesn't make any sense at all. "Left/woke" is on the side of forcing soccer/football on Americans? Really???...And have been ever since Pele was on the New York Cosmos in the late 70s?- Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)
I am literally watching the World Cup Turkey / USA game right now and it has f***-ALL to do with this SoxTalk forum that you posted this thread in. Neither does CNN or the NY Times opinion on anything.- Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)
Sorry to challenge your limited world view/s... Mods can go ahead and bury this in some far flung section of the site that nobody goes to anymore. We'll just pretend this whole World Cup thing doesn't exist as anything but a foreign touristic invasion of the country...with their strange/eccentric antics at baseball stadiums across the country. - David Sandlin getting called up, Schultz to IL with knee injury
