I think whatever little power he has is creeping back. A few more singles shooting further out so they can be stretched into doubles, and he's firmly above "replacement" territory.

I agree with everything here. My take is that Grifol further undermines himself by playing dumb, whether he cares or not. He's random in the way he interacts with the media. The "fucking flat" comment was the right comment at the wrong time. There's 30 other games where guys were phoning it in that he could have made that statement, and the clubhouse would agree.

I think this is a non-issue, but being mealy-mouthed just breathes life into the non-issue. He doesn't establish "the statement" on the matter that would put it to rest. He makes the player the lead on the non-story, and it lives on as some sort of mystery for a day or two. Also plays into the narrative that he's losing the clubhouse, because players are getting into tiffs with umpires that the manager isn't even aware of.

Major promotions? If I had to guess, I'd say Brooks Baldwin has earned a promotion, either to AAA, or the ML club. I could see Baldwin getting time at 2B if DeJong and Lopez are moved. Or he plugs in at AAA and Lenyn Sosa gets that one last shot to stick at 2B for a few months. Elko, Quero, Turner and Burke - Elko is the only one of them who is currently heating up, but he's had a slow start, and they might want to see him regain his power at Birmingham, first. Terrell Tatum is Rule 5 eligible this off-season, and he already made AAA last year. Yes on him. If the Sox decide to move on from Maldonado, it may be because Stassi is ready to start getting reps. If he isn't, they could always promote Chuckie Robinson or Hackenberg, who would be as overmatched as Lee looked last year. Wilfred Veras is also due for a promotion. If they go nuts moving Fedde, Flexen, Kopech, Wilson, maybe Brebbia, Hill and Clevinger, then, yeah, Cannon, Thorpe and Shuster could move into the rotation. If Pham and Sheets are traded, I can see DeLoach and Colas spending the last 2 months of the season on the Sox. I imagine Getz will be active at the deadline, and the draft will force some promotions out of the ACL and low-A ball.

Grifol is a mealy-mouthed dunce with zero cred and no confidence. This is a weird turn, to lose the clubhouse over a rookie throwing Grifol's criticism back in his face. Grifol has no power. He has no card to play. He's already benching Lee way too much for the team's fortunes. I want to see these guys start getting pissed off. That's great that everyone likes each other. Weeks ago, when Trea Turner was tagging from 1st to 2nd on a flyout, up 8, in the middle of a streak where every other game was a no-hit threat for the White Sox - Turner should have been sat on his ass the next at-bat. First pitch. Nicky Lopez is patting guys on the ass who just hit a double off his pitcher. That kind of stunned me. I hate Mike Ditka, but like he used to say, these guys are taking food off your table. They're mocking you. They're putting you out of a job. Get fucking angry.
