  1. I don't see that as a "problem". The heart of the problem is that they don't have scores of prospects at the higher levels to fill the rolls. So they're piecing together a team from the waiver wire, cheap free agents and low level trades. The fact that it's seen as a problem has people screaming for slugs like Canario to come in and strike out every at bat so they can scream about what a horribly scouted move Getz made. It's a rebuild. This is what a rebuild looks like.
  2. There's a bunch yelling for the Sox to pick up waiver dudes, try them, and if they can't cut it, DFA them. I agree that from what they saw, it may have looked like too big a jump from AA to the bigs, and Elko kind of forced their hand. Maybe they saw an opportunity to sneak him through waivers, and knew Detroit wasn't interested. Who knows?
  3. Sure, they can roster "anyone". They can't roster "everyone". Everybody gets a wild hair and declares they could DFA 10 different players to roster the one guy they want. It's fanciful.
  4. Amaya plays above average MLB defense at shortstop. They're not rostering him for his bat.
  5. I thought that a player can only be outrighted once, then he can elect free agency. Maybe he was released the first time, and re-signed as a minor league FA.
  6. I think the way it works is that the Cubs paid $100k to draft Workman. That money's gone. They put him on waivers, the Sox claimed him for whatever waivers cost. If he clears waivers, the Tigers get to buy him back for $50k. If they decline, the Sox keep him and assign him to the minors.
  7. I think SoxMachine wrote about how in over his head Workman was. AA 3B trying to play SS in the bigs didn't work. It would have been tough to roster him all season, and that would have most probably been at the cost of Amaya, the best pure SS on the 26-man.
  8. Maton loves his Trajekt machine in Charlotte...
  9. He came with big defensive hype. He started one game, made a big error, hurt himself in the process, and Will-V's like, "Uh-uh. Gimme dat .240 OPS!" I would have taken Workman, too. Amaya's ceiling is also his floor. His future in the game is a rhombus.
  10. Well, that's that. Maybe he slips through waivers, and the Tigers don't want to buy him back, but Amaya lives to fight another day.
  11. It's good they lost the lead then got it back, then got the save. I don't know if they start down the road of self-doubt after a while, but maybe they can start to build a little confidence that they do have some bats in the lineup, and they do have some arms in the pen to battle with.
  12. Ouchy knee. They're giving him and Vargas (ouchy calf) a couple days off around the off day tomorrow to get them right.
  13. Too clever by half. Why not just leave Leasure in while he's seemingly doing well?
  14. Third largest home crowd of the season.
  15. We already know that Getz pulled all the strings in the organization, even when he played 2nd base in KC. KW probably broke into the war room to demand the Sox draft Reinsdorf's grand-daughter in the 1st round of the 2022 draft, and Getz deftly thwarted him, and let Mike Shirley select Noah Schultz.
  16. Then they're going to have to make another move out of the bullpen. I'd guess Shuster or Eisert go down.
  17. That's a lot of heavy lifting for Shane Smith right there. Vaughn in the 3-hole, Palacios batting 5th.
  18. I wonder if he's more bullpen fodder, or AAA starting depth. Everybody in Charlotte seems to have been getting knocked around.
  19. ...And Getz was an Assistant GM and Director of Development. Getz personally imbued Tim Elko with his advancement in the organization, then kept the entire group that drafted him. I'm led to believe by you guys that Chris Getz made all the decisions under Hahn. I'm a young soul.
  20. Wait, I thought that since Getz was part of that front office, he's completely culpable for every move that was made. Pick a lane, grandpa.
  21. From SoxMachine: https://soxmachine.com/2025/05/pregame-notes-still-got-that-pope-thing-going-for-them
  22. Andrew Vaughn is OPSing .749 in May. Trade him now.
