I do remember him saying something recently tho about how there was interest in eloy but it had to "make sense for both sides". I think the point generally tho is you don't believe Cease will get back 2 Top 100s or some rough equivalent in SV. To me at least if the package was AJSS, Grissom and some lottery tickets that would be a massive fail. Massive.

Yeah they can wait till ST starts but it doesn't make sense to take him into the season. Even if he pitches better I'm not sure the return is going to be meaningfully better since it will be 1.5 years of control vs 2 years now so it might be a relative wash.

All I am saying is if 2 pitchers plus meh prospects is the winning bid then one of two things is true and both of them suck. 1. We couldn't creatively manufacture a package (ie 3 team trade if fit isnt great or 2 team trade with someone like BAL or BOS where fit works) that's actually a good fit for our needs which means demand wasn't high enough elsewhere to allow us to get LHS despite BALs lack of interest. So in my eyes bmags and galaly are still right. If demand is massive, FO should be able to force someone to give us what we actually need in prospect capital. 2. Getz is a moron with the wrong priorities and even after acquiring Nastrini, Eder, Bush and the ATL pitchers and with our own home grown pitchers possibly not far from MLB he STILL wants pitching over premium bats. This is arguably even worse than the first scenario. Both inferences suck. The only thing that is kind if a grey area is CIN...where it's two pitchers and maybe you can argue Jorge is going to be a LHS soon...thats kind of borderline....but ATL is trash unless Kelenic is coming along with BOTH pitchers AND something else too.

IMO Red Sox would be a good fit if Os don't work if Breslow is willing to deal Anthony + Teel.

We need LHS no matter what. If there's 10 teams that want him there has to be some kind of creative package somewhere to get some fiercesome left handed bats from someone. It shouldn't be that hard. There is zero excuse to accept two pitchers. I'd rather have the Dodger package that @Chicago White Sox proposed than 2 pitchers +.

A distinct possibility. Man ATL would be the absolute worst. Something like AJSS + Grissom + some other lame prospects is very weak. Very weak. Even both pitchers is meh. We need LHS. Evidently Getz thinks the Ten Commandments says Thou Shall not Slug. If so, he's a fucking moron. LDB is a lame way to play. Even if Chicago got AJSS and Waldrep I would have to apologize to @bmags and @baseball_gal_aly because they would still be on balance right about Cease's lack of value. Two pitchers and no LHS is unacceptable. One pitcher and a pile of crap is a disaster of biblical proportions.

This is a very good point. Bob has historically been used to leak stuff that our FO wants out there. I really really don't want ATL to be the trading partner so I hope you're right and it's a strategic leak to scare LAD. On the other hand, the fact that we are leaking to scare LAD and not BAL suggests Elias is still being a dickless coward and maybe the FO has given up on trying to persuade him.

Why would they give up Murphy? And putting him aside, if ATL is unwilling to give up both pitchers, they can't even make a competitive offer.

Reds would seem to have a better shot than the Braves as they have more to offer. If the Red Sox really wanted to they could beat the Orioles position player package too with a superior position package of their own. If the rumored trade is true LAD is giving up 30m SV in exchange for about 10m if you go by BTV. That's a significant premium for pitching...even flawed pitching. They've got Cease valued at 40m. In this market there's about 10 teams interested. He could easily fetch 50-55m in SV in return in this market and maybe well more. If there's really a 20m premium in this market, the Sox could reasonably ask for Cowser, Norby, Bradfield and Povich from BAL. All 4. They could also ask for Anthony and Teel from BOS. And the rumored 4 player ask of CIN (Lowder, Petty, Jorge, Stafura) might be a bit light. Again IF this is the market.

Pepiot was Top 100 before he graduated. So Glasnow with 25m salary, injury history and one year of control got a Top 100. I was told Cease isn't going to get dick tho...

If we can turn just a couple of SP prospects that we have into decent starters and we get our RF and 2B from BAL I don't think we are a long way from relevance. Relevance isn't a high bar to clear its basically. 500 ball or slightly better. I think if we get the BAL trade done we will have 4-5 positional guys in the Top 100. I think that's a bright future to look forward too and I think after a year or two of spending caps we should also have some money to play with.
