  1. I think they have backup plans but its not stuff people would love. For example on that podcast with McGuffey, Garfein kept putting Gallo out there multiple times and pumping him up so im assuming if they don't trade for a good LH OF, they will circle back to Gallo for like 1 yr 7-8m or something. I think they are gonna address the needs for sure, it's just an issue of meaningfully addressing them or just half ass addressing them, but either way I don't expect 1B pretending to be OF in both corners again and I think at a minimum there will be a cheap platoon LH 2B.
  2. I dont think it was headed for disaster either way. They played hard and mostly good when they didn't hate the manager. I dont think it was headed to a World Series, either, because they still aren't willing to spend like a big time club, but it wasn't headed for .500 baseball with this roster. They probably would have won a couple more division titles and maybe a playoff series or two in this window. They still would be inferior to HOU and NYY and wouldn't have gotten past either in an ALCS or ALDS if they got that draw but they wouldn't have been this bad without TLR
  3. Perhaps they are stuck because they are up against the ceiling of their budget already and can't do anything until they shed payroll. If we know about the 180m budget, then other teams definitely do as well and are in no rush to help us shed salary as they figure they'll have better leverage against the FO if the market starts thinning out. So Hahn has to go out there and say he is open to significant change because that is the plan but since he's being squeezed simultaneously by both JR and other teams he has to also say "he believes in this group" as a way to save face in advance in case nothing materializes. It's not that they don't have a plan or don't know what they're doing, it's that RH is stuck and is trying to manuever his way out of it by reshaping the cash allocation of resources that TLR fucked up with all his RPs while operating within the confines of a stricter ceiling than anticipated and its not at all clear he can pull it off in one offseason when other teams know we are in a jam.
  4. That's a very good deal...why couldn't we do that....oh wait I forgot Jerry
  5. He asserts Judge accepted SFG offer and claimed he had Verlander to the Mets first.
  6. Article implies Montgomery won't be moved either since it suggests TA isn't being moved cause CM isn't yet ready to replace him.
  7. Why? He's projected for a 2.9 WAR season even without a ton of power.
  8. How bout the Dodgers trade for Anderson?
  9. That will require significant compensation.
  10. In addition to that Guillen tweet one of the foodies just posted a GIF of dominoes falling so maybe something is happening.
  11. Trade market price for Giolito's 1 yr/10m should be getting higher...
  12. With the pitching market starting to move, maybe we can get the Giolito deal done soon
  13. He will get over 100 but I doubt it will get to 180.
  14. They aren't tight on money they just don't want to spend it on payroll. Either out of greed or just JR screwing the FO over for pushing out his friend. But they aren't legitimately tight on cash that can't be possible with all the different revenue streams. There's no fucking way.
  15. So unless we start unloading serious money we are one league average signing away from not having enough payroll room to afford a plate of Nashville hot chicken.
  16. Im not saying Q is inferior to Manaea. Instead, as JR told RH when they were booking flights for the Winter Meetings "you can't buy first class when you can only afford economy"
  17. I like Q but after last year he will be too expensive and his HR/9 numbers suggest regression. Manaea will be a more affordable LHP alternative.
  18. Because if you can get a decent cost controlled position player for multiple seasons, the benefit likely exceeds the cost of losing 1 year of Giolito.
  19. This is very possible. They wanted him last year and now that he struggled, they might be able to get him on a cheap 1 yr deal where the money is basically a wash with Giolito leaving, assuming whatever major leaguers we are getting in return don't substantially eat up his salary space. Cease, Lynn, Kopech, Manaea and Clevinger would be pretty solid with potential for great if they are healthy and the latter two bounce back.
  20. Why didn't Tosar get the hitting coach job?
  21. Target a quality young cost controlled catcher in the Giolito trade that might be otherwise blocked.
  22. If you're RH, there is NO hill on which you die on. Your job is to give a lawyerly and thoughtful gloss on BS decisions made over your head so as to make chicken s%*# seem like chicken salad. In exchange you get a very good salary and more importantly job security for life. Sure there may be other GMs that make 3-5m a year and you might be stuck between 1-2m but so what, those checks are guaranteed for as long as JR is around, rain or shine. If you've got that gig you don't "die on a hill" ever. You milk it until its absolutely dry.
