What's odd here is that Hahn found a reason to give Velasquez a guaranteed contract instead of using this same deal on him.
No one was lining up for Velasquez’s services.
This move literally cost the Sox nothing.
Plus, it only improves their negotiating stand w/ teams looking to trade a veteran (Montas) by telling them we have have bodies on standby if a trade can't be made.
We just added a 3 WAR player from 2021 and they added a 2 WAR player.
