  1. Hmmm.... National League.... loves to hit.... wants to win.... CUBS!!!
  2. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) I love "fixed" comments. ....fixed.... You had to know that was coming.
  3. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) I'm not certain why someone cares what I think about what they wear, but that seems to be the thread Why else post a picture of a new outfit? You thought enough to criticize the bottom. I commented on the jersey because I like wearing jerseys. That's what the thread was about.
  4. I'm not trying to change your mind. I just don't know why it matters to you what someone else chooses to wear.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 07:35 AM) The last six months or so are the exact reason that a balanced budget amendment would not work. There are points in time where government spending is necesary to save the economy. I'm sure this spending would have fallen under the "emergency funding" situation. I also don't believe a balanced budget amendment would work, but that's because I feel it would be abused and/or misinterpreted to fit any politician's spending "needs".
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) I DVR'd that Hulk Hogan Celebrity Wrestling. Wow, is it bad. Hard to take Knobbs and Beefcake serious as legit trainers since neither of them were very good. Comes off as very cheesy. I'm quite glad my cable company made CMT a digital-only channel. I only have the digital starter package so I don't get CMT. Therefore, I won't have the opportunity to even accidentally get sucked into watching any of this stupid show.
  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:03 AM) It's not what people think, it's what you become comfortable in. Believe it or not but some people do change as they grow up. Some people don't. Hairstyles, glasses, shoes, cars, clothing. Some people even keep calling other people names like they are in third grade at recess. If you are the type of guy that wants to look like he's perpetually 17, go for it. I never said anything about what people think. My point is you change as you get older. Fashions change as you get older. I'm certain y'all would respect your mom's if they wore halter tops and miniskirts like they did when they were in college. That's not where this started. It started with you saying you think it looks stupid. So the discussion is about what others think at some level. My respect for my mother isn't based on wardrobe, never has been.
  8. I won't watch an inning. I couldn't care less who wins this if I tried.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) yeah, and she says she's upset because I went back to see it today. For all the driving around I did for it (1 theatre in the area) it was pretty disapointing. It would've been much better as a 1 hour show on HBO, and really hit a wall after the long holy land segment. Sorry if I overstep bounds, but I think this is a red flag. She's mad at you for seeing a movie? A movie she forced you to walk out of in the first place? This sounds like an attempt to control you.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Must have missed that one -- what was it all about? The Cubs were accused of running an in-house scalping company that sold "first-release" tickets rather than resale tickets. Their company had a direct printer from the Cubs' ticketing system, accounting for Premium was found in TribCo's Cub books rather than Premium's own books, and other funny things were involved. But the judge decided everything was legit, so Wrigley Field Premium Ticket Service was allowed to continue operations. I couldn't find any of the "legit" columns about the decision, but here's a blog I found:
  11. QUOTE (YASNY @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 07:58 AM) Scalping is illegal for anyone but the Cubs. That ridiculous Cub verdict opened the doors for every team's "reselling" operations. Horrible verdict. Completely wrong.
  12. Identity theft sent to prison: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081017/ap_on_...ng_couple_fraud But the good news for her is she's already used two other inmates' identities to get a bunch of cigarettes and a better bunk.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 10:15 AM) I wouldn't say he plays like anything but... he still disappears in the defensive end. Just giving him a hard time, he's a special player. I know you're just playing around, but I do wish Kane was just a little bigger. If he had just a bit more size, with his skill set he'd be that much more amazing.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) Yeah, it wasn't the Sox idea. It's been done a million times. In hockey, I can remember white-outs in Winnipeg, Quebec and Denver, and an orange-out in Philadelphia off the top of my head.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) The Cubs will have "Blow Out" Day next year. All fans at Wrigley in attendance will be dressed like members of the L.A. Dodgers. A better version of this joke follows: The Cubs could have a Blue-Out Day because the Dodgers blew them out 3 times in a row.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) It's about time someone had the balls to abandon the tired star-based ranking system and adopt a fresh new scale based on bouncing tits Nice review by the way Michael Butler of the Good Clean Fun podcast uses the "zero, one or two erect nipples" rating system for movies.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) After Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann's McCarthy-like tirade on Hardball yesterday I went ahead and donated to her Democratic opponent. From the linked story: What makes the incident even more bizarre is that Bachmann is in a close congressional race and just this past week offered warm words to the Illinois Democrat. "If the presidency would somehow go to Barack Obama, I would welcome him to the 6th District as well," she said after a debate. "As a matter of fact, I would put my hand on his shoulder and give him a kiss if he wanted to." If she is willing to kiss a known "Anti-American", I have to question whether or not SHE hates America!!!!
  18. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) You probably will and maybe with your hat backwards and cool shoes. It also depends on your kids. Some kids are uncomfortable when dad or grand dad starts looking like a college student. So why don't you think we see more older adults wearing jerseys? Well, the only time I've ever worn my baseball cap backwards was when I played catcher, and I give not half a s*** about tennis shoes. My shoes get worn until they get too worn. I don't know why we don't see more older adults wearing jerseys, and I don't care why they don't. I just wear what I'm comfortable in. If some older folks aren't comfortable wearing that stuff, that's respectable. If they stop wearing stuff they like because of what anyone else might think, that's mental weakness IMO. I'm practically AARP-ready now (or so my junk mail tells me), and I don't foresee my love of jerseys or metal and punk music fading away any time soon. If it's "just a phase", it's a long-ass phase.
  19. The only small bad taste this leaves in my mouth is the slight "bait and switch" feeling it has to me. If the Hawks were afraid to make this move while the buzz was hot this summer, it says to me that they either duped the fans until their money was committed, or they were afraid that their hold on the public's interest was so tenuous that one unpopular move could derail it. It would have been a more honest move if had been done in summer (if the move was pre-planned, that is). If the move really was made because of some dispute over the goalie situation, then they fired the wrong guy.
  20. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) Yeah, maybe 25 was too young. But at some point in most guy's lives, they look silly wearing a jersey. Maybe it's while taking the grand kids to the zoo, maybe while meeting with their attorney about retirement planning, maybe at the PTA meeting, or their kids music recital. But it does happen. That's a different argument. Those are specific situations, not an across the board age-based ban. I would argue that a 21-year-old would look silly wearing a jersey to talk to a lawyer. And I will MOST DEFINITELY wear a jersey and shorts when I take my grandkids to the zoo. Book that.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) I heard on the news last night that NHL sources expect Tallon to lose his job anytime now. Well, it stands to reason. If Savard lost his job for playing the "wrong" goalie, then the guy who couldn't trade that "wrong" goalie should logically expect to pay the price as well. Tallon hasn't done that great a job as GM anyway, so even without this drama I think he should be on the hook.
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) I gove him a lot of respect for that. Obviously my local news is much more focused on High School football, so I'm not seeign any of the reports. He's handled the situation very gracefully. You can hear the pain in his voice, but he refuses to go into details about why he was let go, he wishes the team and Quenneville well at every turn, and if he's harboring any ill will he's hiding it pretty well.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) Is there any greater beer on earth than Hamm's? Yes. Many.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Very nice. IMHO someone over the age of 25 or so looks stupid most of the time wearing one, but it does look pretty cool. I look stupid almost every day from October until April then. Hockey jerseys make up about 75% of my casual wear during the colder months. I love wearing them - nothing is more comfortable to me. That said, I don't really like the bottom half of that jersey. I'd have preferred a lot more black and just basic silver and white stripes along the bottom. If I was designing a Sox hockey jersey, I'd use the diamond sock logo as the primary logo on the chest and the Sox logo on the shoulders.
