I'm not going to try and predict ANYTHING with this year's team. Konerko has been swinging the bat pretty well lately, so maybe he'll get his confidence up again.

At the risk of sounding like a 14-year-old Cubs fan, I wasn't terribly impressed with my first look at Cotts. He had a lot of Josh Stewart in him from what I saw. I found myself thinking that I don't see him getting ML hitters out yet. When he hit the low 90s on his fastball, it seemed flat. Didn't look like it had any jump. He did seem poised out there, and worked all the angles fairly well ( up/down, in/out ). Just didn't blow me away as I would expect from the most-hyped prospect on this board.

Yeah, I heard that if you play track 3 of the latest Wu-Tang Clan CD backwards, it says "The Straw Is Dead" twice. Trouble is, it's VERY difficult to play a CD backwards, so not many people had heard about this rumor. Plus, I just heard a rumor that Buddy Ebsen died! MAN, when will the rumor mill shut down???

Wait a minute - you hope he WOULD??? I think he wouldn't like it if they beat the Sox to win the WS, but I think he'd certainly rejoice if the Cards beat anyone else to win the Series. I don't know what it is about the Cardinals - everybody wants to play there, and they play in ST. LOUIS, that hellhole!!! I don't get it...

I will boo stupid play, lack of hustle, or a bad attitude. I won't boo if I feel that someone is giving an honest effort. That's why I can't boo Konerko - he is trying TOO hard and totally burying himself mentally. I can't pile on when I see him pop up and shake his head like a wounded puppy. Alfonseca, on the other hand....... I do make certain exceptions....

Don't like Tallon - too much of a homer, beyond any reason. The next deserved Hawk penalty in his eyes will be the first. Don't like Farmer - he puts me to sleep instantly. Sounds like an NPR announcer with that monotone. It's completely insufferable to listen when he does play-by-play. Rooney's okay, despite the "radio voice". Foley is THE best Chicago sports announcer right now, as dubious a distinction as that is in Chicago. Chicago sports announcers absolutely blow.

My two thoughts on the subject: 1. I doubt that Mark is thinking about the Cardinals when he takes the mound for the Sox 2. If Mark, a lifelong Cardinals fan, cannot say "WE" about the Cardinals, then NO ONE on this board should say WE about the Sox. I personally don't say WE about any sports team that I'm a fan of, but I know a lot of people who do, and that's fine. He's obviously still a Cardinals fan, and honestly, who wouldn't like to play for their favorite team? When he has the opportunity to leave, he should if that's what he wants to do. But I believe that he's professional enough to understand his job every fifth day.

That's exactly why I'm avoiding it. I know what to expect, and I wouldn't like it.

I've been splitting my NL votes between Jenkins and Patterson. I think they both deserve to go, but I guess splitting the votes kinda cancels both guys out, huh??? Cub or not, Patterson has had a real good first half, and that's really what the ASG rewards. I don't mind Patterson - he doesn't seem to be an asshole or anything, he just has bad taste in clothes!

Just heard on ESPN that a warrant for criminal sexual assualt was issued for Kobe Bryant's arrest!! Not many facts yet, but they said that Kobe turned himself in and posted bond. Only an accusation at this point - it's important to keep that in mind.

I don't know about whatever other stuff WSC has said, but this was a fairly light remark IMO. Just an attempt at blue humor. First thing I thought when I read it was, how can JM shave his pubes AND dye them purple?? Wouldn't he just have a handful of curly purple hair???

Weaver is a hot-headed loser, and he's about the LAST guy I want to see the Sox acquire. Koch talks a much better game than he pitches, at least while he's been here. Sounds a lot like vintage 2002 Keith Foulke to me....failing and vowing not to fail anymore....then failing again....ugh....

Not a fan of that song - to my ears, it kinda drones. I really liked their early punkier stuff, like on Incesticide. The twangy acoustic stuff does nothing for me.

IMO, Sandinista was more diverse than London Calling, and not as good. London Calling and their self-titled debut are the best Clash discs, again IMO.

The last couple of CDs from BR didn't thrill me, but they are still a very good group. Stranger Than Fiction and The Grey Race are my favorite BR discs.
