  1. QUOTE (shipps @ May 9, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) So apparently I was sleep walking last night and put ice cream sandwiches down my pants. What do you and Bruins player Aaron Ward have in common? You both got cold-cocked.
  2. Why did he slide? Run through the plate like you would 1st base on a grounder, he's not going to tag you.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) So is tonight a "must win" for the Hawks? I say yes. Technically, no game is a must-win unless you can be eliminated, but the road would be really tough if they lose tonight. Having to win two in a row, with Game 7 on the road? I DEFINITELY don't want that scenario.
  4. ESPN reporting that Chuck Daly died today of pancreatic cancer. Daly coached the Pistons to two NBA titles. RIP Chuck.
  5. ESPN reporting today that Favre sent X-rays of his throwing shoulder to the Vikings yesterday. Odd behavior from a "staying retired" ex-QB....
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) An interesting question is, Why does no one consider a professional hockey team in Wisconsin? Wisconsin men's NCAA hockey sells out all the time and even the women get big crowds. Once upon a time, former Hawks broadcaster Lloyd Pettit owned the Milwaukee Admirals. (I believe he founded them) Lloyd wanted very much for the Admirals to join the NHL. He felt Milwaukee & Chicago would be a natural regional rivalry. After meeting with Pettit, Bill Wirtz had some kind of problem with Pettit's franchise bid. Wirtz pulled the puppet strings of the NHL's "leadership" and squashed Pettit's bid for an NHL franchise. The End.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 6, 2009 -> 06:45 AM) The city of Hartford owns the rights to everything Hartford Whalers. The colors, the records, the logo, the name, even the goal song ("Brass Bonanza"). That is why you dont see stuff hardly ever. As for the Whale, there is still a fan club. http://www.whalerwatch.com/ I really think the Whalers will once again be back in the NHL. It may be 10 years down the road, but the dominoes are beginning to fall. Buttman met with the mayor, Hartford is going to build a new arena, the NYR are going to pull their AHL team out, petitions are growing in numbers and size, Hartford is the largest market without a professional franchise etc... It was a sad day when The Whale left, I hope they are back again. Thanks Sonix, I was not aware of that. Still, it seems odd that the city wouldn't take advantage of what I think would be a pretty solid source of income. The NHL really does need to start re-embracing areas more receptive to hockey than the Southern states.
  8. OH MY!!! BEN GORDON, YOU GRAB THAT LAWNMOWER AND THEN RAKE THE LEAVES!!!! MY GOODNESS!! DERRICK ROSE, GET OUT OF HERE AND CLOSE THE DOOR BEHIND YOU!!! OH MY.....GOODNESS!!!! I don't like them.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 6, 2009 -> 03:39 AM) Looks like the Coyotes filed for bankruptcy. NHL will take the team over. BlackBerry CEO offers to buy team and move it to Hamilton, Ontario but NHL owners undoubtedly will not allow that. It'd be great, but won't happen, if someone bought the team and moved them to Hartford I'd love to see the Whale return! Something weird's going on with the NHL and the Whalers, though - it's really hard to find any official licensed Whalers retro gear. Maybe you find a cap or a hooded sweatshirt, but no jerseys. I don't trust the stuff on eBay, and I'd love to have one of the dark blue Whalers road jerseys from back then (when teams wore dark uni's on the road, that is).
  10. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 1, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) Sad But no surprise at all. He's had substance problems for a long time, and he's in no mood to fix anything.
  11. Oh, those needle marks?? Injectable contraceptives! I only took them for three years, and none after I arrived in New York. [/A-Rod]
  12. That would be an awesome invention.....IF GUYS WERE THE ONES WHO GOT PREGNANT!!! IT'S NOT MY PROBLEM!! OHHHHHHH!!!!! [/Dice Clay]
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 4, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) I'd love for new cars to have a disabling mechanism for all cell phones while the car is in drive. Yep. I've been railing on this point for a long time. The only logical counterpoint would be the need for 911 if someone was following you or something.
  14. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 11:17 AM) I'm sure follow-on research would also show that the women who have these thoughts typically do so when they are on top. Nah, when the ladies are on top, the GUYS are thinking about the women's weight! BUH-DUM BUM!!!
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) for me, talent in music has little to do with the technical skills. I agree. Some of my favorite singers can't "sing", and generally speaking, my favorite guitarists keep it simple and aren't flashy. However, a bad drummer can RUIN a band. For me, that's the key to a rock band - the guy doesn't have to be Neil Peart, but he has to be solid. Ultimately, for me it's always about the songs - much more than it is about the individuals playing them.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Oh, I didn't say it was a negative attitude, I just think this team has a lot of hockey left in it, and though I'm happy we got this far... I crave much more. OK, cool, I misunderstood then. I'm a little nervous because I think Vancouver is much better than Calgary, but I'm excited because I also think they've got a lot left in the tank. Khabibulin seems to finally be the guy the Hawks thought they were getting, and they went out and closed a series on the road, which is huge for confidence. DARE TO DREAM!!!!
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) This is not the mentality you should have. I don't think that's a negative attitude. I felt like this year would be a success if the Hawks made it to the playoffs and maybe won a playoff round. They've done that, exceeding my expectations as far as conference seeding is concerned, so I also feel like anything now is gravy. That in no way means that I don't want them to win now that they're in the 2nd round - personally, I want a Stanley Cup full of "gravy". But if this is where it ends this year, I don't think it's been a bad year in any way.....other than the Brian Campbell message board pissing matches....
  18. I'm a little concerned about facing Luongo, but hell, bring 'em on!!
  19. I wonder if this was done to spice up their reality show? http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/2116.html Earlier today, we reported that Ric Flair's son Reid was arrested again over the weekend in North Carolina. Police records have now been released, revealing new details from the incident. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department, Reid was arrested outside of the office of his father's former business, Ric Flair Finance. He was charged with four separate violations after being pulled over for drunk driving. Charlotte police pulled him over on Sunday afternoon at 2:48 PM and charged him with Driving While Impaired (DWI), Driving with a revoked license (revoked in March after a DUI), felony possession of heroin and a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. His bonds totaled $15,000. TMZ.com has also picked up on the story and was quick to mention that aside from Reid Flair's recent string of arrests, Ric Flair's daughter Ashley was also arrested last year for fighting with Ric and a police officer. While Ric did not press charges, Ashley was still charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
  20. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) The movie was UNBELIEVABLE - can't wait to see the band. Are they still playing as a three-piece? Yeah, Ivan is gone for good. He ended up marrying that "manager" of theirs. I heard an interview with Lips recently and he discussed what happened with Ivan. He said that Ivan ultimately refused to rehearse with the band and would only learn his solos (and no rhythm parts or anything else). It got too difficult for Lips to deal with him with the output being only 3 or 4 solos, so he let him go. They sound GREAT as a 3-piece, so they're not missing anything musically, and I'm guessing it's probably a little better for them financially as well (paying 3 people as opposed to 4).
  21. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 02:53 AM) A health nut wouldn't be eating deepdish pizza at 2 in the morning fool Throwing in the "fool" at the end made this post hilarious to me.
  22. I also liked the slight tease of possible tension between Edge and Christian. This could lead to some interbrand feuding or it could flip over and lead to some sort of alliance, either of which I'd be absolutely fine with. It was time for Orton to go over, and credit H for agreeing to a clean finish. It mops up that storyline for now, while obviously leaving the door open for H to return for retribution later. All in all, a satisfying outcome for all three brands. Nicely done by the E tonight.
  23. Anvil kicked my ass tonight. I went to Metro fully expecting to enjoy the documentary and leave after they played two songs. I could not have been more wrong. They were excellent tonight. From the first note to the last, they left it all on the field. Robb Reiner is maybe the best drummer no one's heard of. He was phenomenal. What a total shock, and a very, VERY pleasant shock at that. Oh, and the movie is terrific too. I will absolutely purchase it the day it comes out on DVD. All in all, I give it a: :headbang :headbang
  24. How many long-term deals has he turned down already? Two or three, right? It's not like they haven't tried to lock him up. If he wants more and someone's willing to give him more, he'll be gone.
  25. That's pretty much what she told me, too. She liked the acoustic mini-set as well. Plus, she was close enough to see his eyes....his "awesome blue eyes, they're so clear, they're really pretty"......uh huh, okay, that's enough.
