He could also be used as a cautionary tale against pushing your kids too hard to perform in the public eye. It could be argued that he didn't get to be a kid when he was a kid, so he spent the rest of his life trying to buy a childhood. It was definitely a strange end to a strange existence. No denying his talent, though.

I don't know if anyone cares any more (or if anyone should), but Samoa Joe turned heel last night at the TNA PPV and helped Kurt Angle regain the TNA championship. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 07:14 AM) As I've stated before, in my line of business, I have background and credit checks done on people everyday. We've been lucky we haven't been burned, but its amazing how many of these checks come back clean or very close to it, but later we find out its a very different story. The White Sox did business with Hernandez as did Comcast Sportsnet. A lot of people did. To single out North isn't fair, and I'm not a North apologist. I don't doubt that's true, but you do the checks. He didn't, and that's what I think is ridiculous. It's one thing to take the steps and have something slip through the cracks, it's another to encourage people to join in on something with a guy you took at face value. I agree that it's a little unfair to single North out for criticism, as this guy has conned a bunch of people, but it's an interesting story and people are going to have opinions. As a public figure who (as part of his chosen career) has had strong opinions on a lot of topics and people, it's not unreasonable for him to land on the receiving end of opinions as well.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 06:39 AM) Easy to claim. If you have, good for you, but you still would be in the minority. Most of the people ripping North for doing business with this guy would have done exactly the same thing if they were in his shoes. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume he has an attorney of some sort. If he didn't authorize his attorney to run a real background check on Hernandez, that's his own damn fault. And yeah, that goes for anyone else who was risking their future on this guy. I understand that it's easy to get snowed by a smooth-talking guy who's flaunting his wealth, but for your own sake you've got to be suspicious enough to try to protect yourself. If I'm North, I'm completely embarrassed that some guy online paid 4 bucks to discover "his guy" was a fraud.

All this does is make me remember Pizza The Hutt from Spaceballs.

I was reading shipps' thread about wanting to move to California, and it made me wonder: If you could move anywhere, where would you go? For me, it would be somewhere in the Phoenix area (I loved that area when I visited a few years ago) or maybe London. (Although I think I just romanticize London because of the '77 punk thing - I'd probably hate living there) What say you? What's your destination?

I don't know what Tripsy can do with his character at this point. It's not like he's ever been all that versatile - it's been either childish clown H or super-intense H. I do think H could use some kind of new look, but with his mega-honker he'd never cut his hair anyway. -

Eric Bischoff speaks The Truth!! [courtesy, as always, of Lords Of Pain.net] http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/2834.html Eric Bischoff posted a a blog entry on his official website, EricBischoff.com, giving his thoughts on Monday Night Raw this past week. * "Triple H's entrance is weak, old and so tired I went to go floss my teeth when it started. He looks like a Lhasa Apso genetic experiment gone bad. Get him some new music for Gods sake, and a hair-cut. One word describes HHH’s character: dated." * "The VKM announcement of the new GM tease was weak at best…is it me or are Vince’s ears gaining size on his head? The VKM revelation that he "sold RAW" was lame. When you start out a story line with a premise that is completely unbelievable, should it be a surprise that the audiences gags on it? Trump isn't good in this role and is too forced. My guess is that Trump will bring in Ric to handle day-to-day duties on his behalf, and at least give fans something to get excited about for a while." * "Golddust and Hornswaggle? Too f'n goofy for comment. And Miz, make me believe. Because right now I don't." * "CM Punk was the best interview I heard all night. He's believable, his in ring work is great, and he’s comfortable in his character. Props on the respect for Masawa. Can't say enough good things about him. Matt Hardy's mic skills are marginal in this interview. Unless he was just having an off night, his interview skills reached a plateau a few years ago." * "WTF is Jeff Hardy’s character supposed to be? He looks like Papa Shango after a Lap-Band procedure, and doesn’t look he could crack an egg. Enjoyed watching Edge, but the match was a bit too much of a spot fest for my liking, although I recognize some people enjoy that type of match. Did I mention that I hate 3 ways, 4 ways?" * "The main event just bored me. 3 ways, 4 ways, 10 ways are just cheap ways to camouflage the lack of story and issues between the performers. I am the first one to defend writers/producers who are challenged to come up with fresh ideas for the same pool of talent week after week, but there is a consistent pattern in WWE story telling that just leaves me feeling flat." -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) How could he not have known Hernandez's past problems? "Ay, da Google came up wit' nuttin'! Dat guy'z clean - HE'Z MY GUYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""

These old games just hammer home once again how much better the ballpark looks now.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) I didn't hear Artie on Howard today(I don't listen) but on Waddle and Silvy today, someone called and said Artie talked about this for an hour on todays show, how the producers told him pre show that if it got boring, spice things up, thats what he was there for. Buck supposedly came in as well, and passed along the same message. WAIT JUST ONE GOSH-DARN MINUTE!!! Are you trying to insinuate that this could have been.......a STAGED CONTROVERSY????? BITE YOUR TYPING FINGERS!!!!! FWIW, I think they could have told him to behave because the entire audience was going to be 4-to-8-year-olds and he would have said the exact same things.
-
I think Artie is trying to see what he can kill first, his career or his body. He's fast-tracking both deaths.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) Prince said he was turning vegetarian. I don't think there's any actual chicken in those nuggets, so he should be okay.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) Are you 80 years old? Two of the games are afternoon affairs. I wake up at 2:15 AM for work every day and do a fairly physical job, so I'm a little worn out when I get home. I don't anticipate the Cubs/Sox games being so exciting as to keep me awake.
-
Prince Fielder read "Nuggets" and went to McDonald's.
-
I predict that I will see a total of 13 innings from the 3 games combined. I will intentionally fall asleep during tonight's game and unintentionally fall asleep in my recliner during the other two. (This prediction is based on normal weather - rain delays may increase or decrease the number of innings I sleep through)

How do you feel about the Chicago Cubs?
The Critic replied to Marky Mark's topic in The Diamond Club
I don't mind them. My wife and a lot of my family and friends like them, so I go to Wrigley a couple times a year and I watch their games fairly regularly. I like Wrigley OK. The seats are too small for my fat ass, but it's a fun enough time when I go there. USCF beats its ass all over the place as far as comfort, sightlines, and amenities go. I don't really enjoy the "rivalry" between the Sox and Cubs fans, as it seems to bring out the worst in both fanbases, but I just leave that alone. I used to go to the "crosstown classic" games when I could, but I got tired of it so I stay away now. -

Christian/Dreamer was entertaining, too. I really hope this "new owner" isn't a letdown. If it's some goof like JBL I'm going to vomit all over my TV. -

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) McMahon has "sold" Raw. We'll find out the new owner in just about half an hour or so. My official guess is Eric Bischoff. My first thoughts were Paul Heyman or Ric Flair, but Flair is "injured" and Heyman seems to be out of the business for good, so I'm going with Bischoff. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) I heard "Ponzi Scheme." I read "Ponzi scheme" at the top of that Trib article.

SNL's Lorne Michaels was just shown on camera and he was rubbing his lips with his middle finger. Is it possible a TV producer didn't know he was on camera?
