QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) And if Indiana is a top program, so is Illinois. I just dont see what advantage Indiana has over Illinois going forward. Indiana's tradition was years ago, and furthermore they have not shown the ability to keep the top in state recruits from leaving. Conversely, Illinois was in the NCAA finals within the last 10 years and has had significant success recruiting in Chicago. If I was going to be given a Big 10 team, no way would I consider Indiana over Illinois. You have not followed Indiana recruiting lately have you? They've been on a run that is just unheard of, Calipari like. Also, IU is not elite anymore, but a top level job, it is. We've been god awful for 3 years, and we nearly sell out every game with just ridiculous atmospheres. Our tradition may be old, but its unmatched in the bigten. Indiana should be well on its way back starting next year, as the cavalry starts to arrive. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) ESPN recruiting rankings suck really really badly. Look at RSCI and rivals. In reality Illinois has 3 top 50ish type players in that class in Shaw, Henry and Abrams and then Egwu is a top 100 kid who probably has more potential than any player in the state (for the class of 2011) not named Anthony Davis (arguments can also be made for Henry, Blackshear and Thompson, although Thompson still doesn't produce enough for my liking) when you look at the amount that he has improved over the last 2 years. Langford is a boom or bust kid, positives are that he is 6'7, handles the ball well, seems to have good court vision, and he is long and athletic for a wing but on the negative side he isn't always assertive and he doesn't always dominate the way he should. Worth taking a flyer on though IMO considering they had space and the 2012 HS class in Illinois is quite possibly the worst group of players in state history. Dave Telep took over ESPN's rankings, they are pretty damn good now. -

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) True enough...I was just impressed with his coaching tonight. Of course, going up against a team whose down-by-3-last-second-play is to have Tisdale turn the ball over probably just makes the opposition look like geniuses relatively. With two starters out too... Rushing the court was bad, but we've been through hell the past three years, does not bother me much. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 09:39 PM) Haven't heard about him all year , is what I meant. Still hurt from last year? Oh, sprained his MCL earlier in the year. He's a 100% now, but without a real inside presence, its hard for him to find shots when he can't really dribble. That said, he can fill it up if he just would shoot more. -

A lot of energy in the crowd tonight for IU/IL. Were going to need it with two starters out. -

Don't see that happening since its where he played at, but they don't pay him dirt for the job he has done. If anything, he's going to be exactly like Gene Keady, great seasons, but never do anything in the postseason, and if that happens, I can see them running him out of town. There is just not a great allure to spending spending a year or two at Purdue if you're a player, let alone 4 if you need time to develop. There is a reason a lot of the campus migrates down to Bloomington or Muncie for the weekends. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) I had to at least comment on that ass-raping of purdue last night, so enjoyable. Haha I knew it was going to happen. Purdue has yet to beat a good team. Yea they beat MSU, but they are 12-7 and really really struggling. Painter has really missed the boat recruiting since 2007. There has been SO MUCH talent in Indiana while IU has been down, and he has pulled one top 100 player in Terone Johnson over that time period. He's a great coach, but like Purdue fans saw last night, you can only go so far with mediocre talent surrounding your Big two. It will be interesting to see what they look like next year without two of their best players in history. -
Ohh my. You picked a bad month for family friendly in Miami. Spring break 2011 haha

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) He has to close games for ILL because no other player seems to actually want to run the offense. He is basically the entire team at times like that, a very valuable player. Who will take over that role when he leaves is a huge question mark for them next year. Which is sad because of how much talent is on that team. It could even be argued that they have more than MSU and OSU. I'm starting to believe Purdue fans when they said Bruce Weber can thank Matt Painter for landing him the Illinois job, he made that SIU team go. -

Oh please. Purdue does have two great players, but the rest of their team is practically MAC level talent. Johnson deserves all the credit in the world. ILL has received the cream of the crop on the recruiting the past four years, Weber has no excuse for his crappy results. McCamey is a great player, but in the losses, he disappears down the stretch in a lot of games, its not hard to see. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 7, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) But their teams don't rely on them 99% of the time like McCamey. That's what sets him apart. Obviously there's a small number of elite guys, and at this point it's dumb to argue who's better. We'll see by the end of the year because that guy is probably going to lead his team to the conference title. Really? Purdue does not rely on Johnson 99% of the time? He's the only big they that is able to even figure out where the offensive end of the court is. He is consistently double and triple teamed and still puts up huge numbers. What him and Moore are doing by themselves is incredible, this coming from an IU fan. Sullinger is very very good for a freshman, but he has help around him, just like McCamey. McCamey is a great player, but he's still a headcase at times and has been known to disappear in big games. -

If they can't pry Harbaugh away, I'm guessing Hoke, who'd be a fantastic hire as well. -

Crean won't be under the microscope until next year. There is a huge turnover in the bigten, and we keep everyone but Rivers and add Zeller, Etherington, and probably another player before its said and done. Still, there is no reason to lose to PSU at home, he needs to shorten the leash on Verdell Jones, as he is horsesh*t. Watford, Elston, and Hulls is a good nucleus, now they need to start playing. 2012 is when Creans monster class steps in, and he will definitely still be the coach, but that will be his make or break year. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) They'll be ok because they'll play tough at home. I still laugh at people saying Jajuan Johnson is one of the 5 best players in the country. I'm starting to laugh at people saying Painter is one of the best coaches in the country. Outside of the big 3, which he recruited when IU was a s***show, he has not developed anyone. It's the Moore and Johnson show with 3 MAC players on the floor. I think Painter owes his COY award to Hummel. Lewis Jackson is just hilarious to watch. I don't know if I've ever seen a guard so bad on offense. -

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Rumor is that Bruce Pearl may auction himself (and give all the proceeds to charity) to allow people the chance to watch the 1st 8 SEC games with him (since he'll be suspended). I think that would be incredibly interesting to see how he'd act watching his own team. As much as most of you hate the guy, you have to admit this would be a pretty good thing to do, and a way to make some good out of a bad situation. Sounds like he just wants some "good" attention. How the hell is he even allowed at the game? Scratch that, how the hell is he still even you're coach? And I don't even mind the guy or Tennessee... -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) Oh come on. So because they lost for the first time in 24 games to the 19th-ranked team in the country, on the road, by missing a chip-shot FG as time expired in regulation, that means they couldn't run the table in any of the power conferences? I'm not shedding any tears for Boise, but that argument holds no weight whatsoever. Holds enough weight for me. Go through OSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, and MSU in a season, and thats not even the best lineup of teams I could put together. -
