  1. Hays is somewhat different. He is a quality player with a good excuse for an off-year. Most formerly good players who are suddenly available suffer from old age or injury.
  2. I was referring to Austin Hays at approximately 4 million. Benintendi was 15 mil for 5 years. If Hays bounces back either extend him or trade for future pieces. We have little to lose and he was slowed by a kidney infection, not old age.
  3. I would take as many Austin Hays-type crap shoots as I could find. One of the plus things about being lousy is that there is plenty of room for taking chances.
  4. As I have said many times...the minimum requirement is to be entertaining.
  5. I'm saying money talks in building good baseball teams.
  6. When you become a Dodger or Yankee fan... the Sox will be sold to Elon Musk and the Sox will never lose again. That's how life works.
  7. Don't play him if he doesn't earn the spot. We are a team that can afford to take a chance on these released players.
  8. Even if that's true there's nothing to lose.
  9. There is no good reason not to pick him up.
  10. I've had the same thought and I hope I'm right. Jerry doesn't have enough seasons left in him to start from scratch. For the most part...contracts are liabilities, not assets when selling.
  11. Crochet and Robert are both relatively cheap. There is no reason to trade them unless blown away. Seems obvious to me.
  12. Austin Hays would be worth a gamble.
  13. Benintendi is fine if he plays like the end of last season. Keep Crochet and Robert and bring up Montgomery, Quero, and Schultz. Spend on a few medium-priced free agents to see if the WS can be respectable. There won't be a future fan base if today's kids don't have some "stars" to admire. I can't believe Jerry wants to leave with this current situation as his legacy.
  14. JR must be an optimist to believe he can live to see a 10-year rebuild to a conclusion.
  15. I credit the WS for keeping their word to hold a Soxfest-type event. After the year we had it would have been instinctual to hide from the fans. The rebranding and smaller venue is just the reality of not getting enough fans to keep it in the former space.
  16. I like this hire—good organization to poach from.
  17. He has to say something. I wouldn't worry about it.
  18. Some here refuse to accept that only 30 of these jobs exist.
  19. I'm glad to see a new manager hired in time to have input into the FA process.
  20. I hope he is being given great latitude in picking his coaching staff.
  21. Venable would get my vote. I would be fine with Sizemore as well. I'm partial to those guys who played in the majors. They have more creditability with the players IMO.
  22. There are more good people than good jobs. I think our odds are good if we go outside the organization.
  23. Yes it would be very WS. However, it shows Grady has a love of the game that I admire.
  24. That wouldn't bother me. Players played up to their abilities and that's all any manager can do.
  25. To be fair...2 weeks ago none of us would have thought it could be that strong.
