Predict the Market: FA Contracts
You can't have it both ways. Last year you pro Machado guys said his skillset and age were a rare once in a lifetime/generational opportunity to acquire Machado at the astronomical cost of 300 million. One team stepped up and paid the price. Less than one year later you guys find another generational player but this time your conclusion is he's worth 300 million plus two quality players. Thank God RH has a little more self control than some of you.

Predict the Market: FA Contracts
What kind of fool would give Betts the same money as Machado and throw in two quality players as well? That's who is spamming.

Predict the Market: FA Contracts
No...but Rodon and Sanchez would get it done.

Don Cooper’s Eventual Replacement
Another thing to like about how the WS treat their own.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
Thank you...I like you too. My point was not that I think we are getting both Cole & Wheeler. I was referring to the fluid nature of this offseason. If someone becomes available unexpectedly like Mike Trout we may need to take away resources from other areas. No... I don't expect that to happen nor do I really expect the Cole/Wheeler deals to both happen. Just try to hope the stars align and we get some pleasant surprises. I get it...some of you think nothing good can happen until JR is gone. I choose to disagree.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
As you know...some posters like to knock others ideas without having any of their own.

Cole or Strasburg?
Last offseason the Padres didn't have a seat at the table...until they did.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
That's the point...neither of us know.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
It's all fluid. If opportunity presents itself two sign Cole & Wheeler we might need a cheaper option in RF or DH. We will need to see the whole offseason unfold before judging.

A Realistic Offseason
Tsutsogo was posted this morning. Power hitter corner outfielder with suspect glove. Interesting to see if FO has interest. Maybe this eras Iguchi.

A Realistic Offseason
Many things will change between now and 2025. I refuse to believe we need to stay in the middle of the pack instead of top third in order to pay future extensions. Some of these young guns will be extended and some will be traded in exchange for future young guns. That's how the Braves and Cardinals do it.

A Realistic Offseason
The primary difference between us is I have been publicly stating my belief that our budget will be 160+. The vast majority of posters have suggest that 120 is their guess. Like a kid at Christmas...I'm dreaming of some really nice toys. Most of you are thinking one pretty nice toy and some underwear and a bathrobe. We shall see.

A Realistic Offseason
If WS sign Cole the second pitcher could be a Nova type... If we sign Wheeler than the second pitcher needs to be something like Ryu...If we sign Wheeler and Cole then becomes available you now have Lopez or someone else for trade ammo. I'm saying get pitching and don't worry about it. The better pitching you have the more ammo you have.

I agree. Joc appears to be the safe bet.

A Realistic Offseason
I don't believe we or any other team is not interested in TOR guys. It is totally about what we are willing to pay VS others. There is nothing wrong with having a max budget and not going higher. Trout would appeal to anyone but half a billion would have been higher than my risk tolerance. I think most on here will be pleasantly surprised with what we get and what JR is willing to spend. We might even get in on some players that are bargains that weren't expected. Budget and salary constraints will leave some good players available.

What...No Cole?

Division winning? That roster would have a good chance of going all the way. ?

Trade Candidates: Hitters
Boston is paying over 12 million in over cap tax penalties. They need to do something and are not in position to hold anyone up. They may be a good trade partner especially with a new GM. New guys seem more willing to trade players they didn't bring into the organization. David Price might be part of such a deal.
