Yep. They have luxury tax issues and expensive people to keep happy. I don't disagree that if they have an absolute need for a player they frequently are in the hunt. I don't see the Yankees or Dodgers breaking the bank on Cole. They will make really good offers and if he's our guy...beat those offers. My preference would be Wheeler and Bumgarner but my point is we can afford anyone we want.

I want to believe in the rebuild and RH. His moves to acquire Mancada, Kopech, Madrigal, Lopez, Anderson, Gioleto, Robert, Cease, McCann, Bummer, Colome and Jimenez are A+++. That makes half a team of star potential at as low cost as can be. With the financial resources now available...most of us could acquire the 6 to 8 key players needed to complete the rebuild. We definitely will be in the hunt in 2020 IMO.

Madrigal is suppose to be a baseball smart player. Everything said about him indicates a Nellie Fox type with better speed.

Sanchez will be non tendered. The Sox can offer 3-4 million if they think that highly of him. Arbitration is a non starter.

Moncada and Madrigal playing their natural positions is a much better plan. The 300 million much better used to get the two stud pitchers.

I'm liking Engel more every day. Leury has his pluses as you point out but his brain farts get old.

He didn't steal bases just to pad the numbers. He stole when it mattered. I've heard baseball people say he could have stolen 100 bases per year if he wanted to.

Share catching Grandal 40%...McCann 40%...Collins 20% DH with whoever is not catching or the backup that night. Makes it easy to afford Grandal and upgrades two positions substantially.

I want him up next year as well...just not as primary catcher.
