Free agency is not a good place to shop for stars. Draft and trade for stars...fill in weak areas with competent free agents.

Take the Mendick at bats from Sanchez for goodness sakes.

Dombrowski would trade the future for the now. Don't get impatient now. Personally I think Hahn has done a great job building what looks like a powerhouse with just a few more key player added this offseason.

Nice upgrades to RF & DH leaves boatloads of cash to upgrade pitching up and down the line.

The names are not the issue. He is stating a philosophy of spreading dollars over more than one player to minimize risk.

It is a big deal if Timmy could pull this off. He would join Luke Appling who won the batting title in 1936 & 1943 and Frank Thomas who won in 1997. The rebuild just gets better and better.

My personnel preference is to use free agency to fill holes with competent players. The economics are terrible in free agency for shopping for stars. I love that the Sox due to the rebuild have built a stable of possible stars in Gio,Kopech, Anderson, Moncada, Robert, Collins, Madrigal, Lopez, Cease and Eloy. They have used free agency to find nice complementary pieces in Colome & McCann. Not at all saying not to sign a Cole...but if the price is out of line... I have no problem with a Wheeler type.

Neither Machado or Harper where good fits for the money. Any competent right fielder would have improved the offensive massively at a fraction of the cost of Harper.

Two quality starters plus right fielder and DH. Beef up the pen a bit and we compete in 2020. We have more raw talent than any year I can remember. I do believe a change in manager and coaches might be needed to get the most out of the kids. Robert and Madrigal along with competent RF and DH turns the lineup into a powerhouse.

I think Madrigal will be the Nellie Fox of this generation of Sox baseball...and that ain't bad.
