Like your Gennett guy...good name to consider. Nova would work OK for me as well...more for starter depth and long relief. Smoak, Puig an Wood don't do much for me.
I agree with your comment about the juiced ball. It doesn't mean anything that Minnesota is breaking the record with so many guys with 20 HR's. The juiced ball makes every hitting record suspect. Just to much playing around with a game that has withstood the test of time.
I agree with your analysis of Jose's strengths and weaknesses. Also, I agree with your take on stats both traditional and new. My grade is B+ and the Sox have bigger things to accomplish this offseason than finding a replacement for Jose.
I get your point but it seems he accomplished something with the time spent. I would like to see Eloy do this as well. Heck...invite Abreu and they can have a party.
Detwiler has been interesting to me. Former first round pick who has had a couple of nice games. Never know when you find a diamond in the rough. FYI...yes I know he's 33 years old and had some serious injuries in his history. Still like what I've seen.
Moncada having the big signing bonus and Gio having family wealth have been mentioned as reasons they won't be amenable to extensions. Sale and Trout have wealth from prior contracts and yet signed with their respective teams. I think there is a good chance Gio and Yoan like this team and want to be part of what is being put together here. There are more zero's on their paychecks but liking where you live and the people you work with still count with most people.
I love what you have done. Was considering doing something with the same format but was much to lazy. It serves as a baseline for what can be done and if posters have a better idea they can suggest an alternative player and associated cost. Hope that posters make suggestions to improve your thoughts rather than take pot shots as many like to do. Good job!
I hope we sign Grandal and bring up Collins. Additionally I would for sure what McCann on an extended basis. That combination gives lots of catching / lineup versatility and in particular solves a glaring DH problem. It might also lead to pitcher / catcher combo relationships much like the Gio / McCann relationship which has developed this season.
I imagine the team is worth more as a championship caliber team. This might be the year Jerry feels the all in mentality would be a worthwhile investment.
Obviously none of us know. My guess (desire) would be the 12-14 range. It won't surprise me if the Sox pay him 16-18 because they are very loyal to those they consider loyal to them. It's Jerrys money so I'm fine with whatever they do.
My point of view is he will not go to arbitration but be released (non tendered). Just like Avi. The difference is I expect him to be resigned in the 3-4 million range after he is declared a free agent. The process might take a month or two...or perhaps a day or two. Arbitration would pay Yolmer 6+ million and I'm sure his advisors know that isn't going to happen.
When the all star first basemen says he only wants to play for the White Sox...when the Sox don't have a replacement as of yet...and all indications are he will sign at a discount...THEY WILL RE-SIGN ABREU IMO.
I have never agreed with those who think moving Moncada to 2nd was going to happen. Once the team uses the 4th overall pick in the draft to pick Madrigal he is not being used as a bargaining chip. If Hahn made that move I would surely think him incompetent. GM's stake their reps on drafting and trading for the right guys. Even when they are wrong they stick with their mistakes a long time (see Beckham).
