I have always liked players like Adam. If they can just learn to carry about a .270 BA they can be an offensive force. The action they create with speed has unraveled many a good pitcher. Anyone who doesn't feel better when Engel is running down a flyball instead of our other options isn't paying attention. Do you think McCann was about the money in last years FA class. For most guys it's just the process required in today baseball. Lots of guys sign quickly with first team that shows genuine interest. Boras clients take forever because they want every last nickel. This all about the money crap is not good for baseball.

Benintendi would be a nice fit for us. Unfortunately... he's not worth the probable asking price. If the Colome, Bummer and Abreu deal mentioned above was available I would make that deal.

How to call for the ball seems pretty basic for major league outfielders. It seems this is a recurring problem year after year. Why?

I also prefer to rotate guys in DH so as to use the whole roster for versatility. A permanent DH works when you have a Frank Thomas but there aren't many of those.

We can easily afford to add $100 million per year in payroll. Even if we elect to pay a Cole type in the vicinity of $30 million per year that still leaves $70 million per year for a lesser starter, a right fielder and several very good relievers and several nice extensions. I think Jerry is prepared to spend the money but probably not all his eggs in just a couple of baskets. That's not necessarily wrong.
