Fish at Palehose: 5:10 EST Reylo against tonight's Cy Young Zac Gallen
When pitching is good and not slow-poke between pitches...defense is sharper as well.

What would it take to get Mike Trout?
His new contract was for 436 million for 12 years. He's certainly worth that if Harper is worth 300 million. However, I want no part of having so much team resource tied up in one player. There are reasons these player don't usually play on championship teams...unless the team is big market. Medium and small market teams don't have the resources to build enough team around them. Stars are great but baseball is a team game. With 25 players needed it is very hard to build a winner when one player sucks up 25% of available resources. Much smaller contracts by todays standards to Cabrera and Mauer really helped sink the Detroit and Minnesota teams.

2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
Adam LaRoche will always have my vote for least favorite Sox player. Could not stand the guy.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Asking price should be through the roof and Hahn is quite good at extracting the maximum when he has something good to trade. This will definitely not be a salary dump.

I would hope that this trade would lead to Hahn's immediate dismissal.

Both sides of this discussion keep repeating the same arguments. At this point Hahn will have to work this out without our help.

This is correct. Once the meter starts running you have 6 years of control. The first 3 years are for close to league minimum and the fourth through sixth will be in the neighborhood of 8, 10 and 12 using Kris Bryant as a prototype. That means Robert will earn in the neighborhood of 32 million in that 6 year period. We offer to guarantee the 32 million and pay a bonus payment of 3 million for the extra time starting Aug. 1, 2019. Robert now is guaranteed making 35 million and is a free agent on the same day as if he didn't take the deal. His deal is guaranteed if he breaks his leg tomorrow and is out of baseball. What he lose...absolutely nothing. Why should the Sox do this deal...major league development starts immediately getting his feet wet so we compete in 2020 out of the gate, increase this years fan base & fan goodwill. You can play with the numbers up or down but the concept is a no brainer for both Robert and RH.

Engel Recalled
Small sample size but does look improved as a hitter. Much better on my nerves when he is in the outfield.

To Sell or Not to Sell?
Very few players are untradeable if the price is right. I'm perfectly happy to keep both Colome & Bummer...but neither isn't tradeable for an overpay.

Will you be mad if the Sox do not seriously try to move Abreu?
I see from your posts that you are something of a contrarian. Good to get a different point of view.?

My opinion: Sox need to make another megadeal
It doesn't matter who agrees with who. This forum would be pretty boring if there weren't differing opinions. Disagreements are great...disagreeable is not.

This is past the issue of money since both Robert and JR both have plenty of that. It's about control since both parties would obviously want Robert on the Sox now. I'm suggesting both sides would gain by agreeing to the actual dollar and cents value of the less than 3 month issue. Both sides can hold their collective breath until approximately the end of next April but it's rather childish.

It's strange that both Hahn and Robert can't agree on a short extension for the actual value of the two months this year and the first few weeks of next years season. Actuaries could tell you within a few dollars the actual value of that time. When both parties want the same objective a compromise should be easy to reach.

2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
It's a business decision. I don't want the Sox overpaying for any of our players. Teams need to run a good financial shop in order to have the money when needed to keep or acquire desirable players. It's why fans get upset with the apparent Alonso miss steps. Jose has a talent level that I would place in the 12-14 million range. I certainly would not pay another 4 or 5 million for some intangibles like mentoring.

In another year or two we win with or without Jose. Until that time we probably do better having him hold down the fort. Two year extension would work. If you can't reach an extension for 12-14 million I trade him. Would never make him a qualifying offer...he would take it.

Gerrit Cole - The Rebuild’s Fulcrum
It is possible that Stone agrees with JR on length of pitcher contracts. I agree with JR on long contracts for pitchers being scary. It might be necessary in todays market but that doesn't make it less scary.

Home Sweet Home: White Sox vs Marlins 7:10 CT (Nova vs Richards)
On another note...I don't recall the new nets coming into play at all tonight. Forgot about them after a few minutes.

Yep.

Goins having a nice night.

He even works at a faster pace...as if he was confident. I think that slow working pitchers give off the vibe of being afraid to throw the ball (lack confidence in their stuff).

Nova with 84 pitches through 7 innings. This son of a gun might throw a complete game. Who would have thunk it.
