  1. On Monday, from 11:00 to 11:20, Esteban will be at the Los Dos Laredos food booth, #37 and Miguel Olivo will be at the Original Rainbow Cones, booth 40. Autograph sessions at the Comcast Family Village Fun Time Stage 11:30 till 12:30 Esty and Miguel 12:30 to 1:15 Former White Sox Greats (FWSG) Minnie, Moose and Meltie 1:30 to 2:30 Joey Cora and Kevin Hickey. 2. I think Parque got the most out of his talent he possibly could, and there's a lot to be said for that. I remember the bad years too, and yeah they sucked. But I also remember that he was a guy who protected his teammates. He was our starter in the Detroit brawl game. IIRC, the nastiness started with Carlos Lee getting involved in a hard slide at third, and then Jeff the puke Weaver hitting CLee later on. I was at the game and said, this could be interesting next inning, and sure enough, first pitch Parque retaliates. Then the hockey game broke out. Good luck to Parque.
  3. Garland is never gonna change. He's a major league pitcher, but he doesn't have the makeup to be a dominant, star pitcher. He's happy as a pig in slop to be what he is, sometimes successful, sometimes not, whichever. By the way, lately the criticism of Jerry Manuel about taking Garland out too soon, to protect against the big inning, has died down. I think Ozzie is seeing that Garland is gonna be Garland, no matter who manages him. He's our 4th best pitcher, and that's all he'll ever be. viva ozzie. (i've removed the caps on that.)
  4. You betcha. Gload was trying to let Uribe make a real difficult play, on what should have been Gload's easy play. No way this guy should be in right field Saturday or Sunday.
  5. Infielders are taught to keep going until the outfielder calls you off the ball. This was all Gload's fault. He was looking not to catch the ball, so Uribe looked bad on the play. Hell, Carl Everett-types catch that ball.
  6. And we hit LaTroy Hawkins how? Oh yeah I remember. s***ty. Gonna be a tough six games against the Cubs.
  7. In the 5th inning yesterday Gerut drove the ball to right center for one of Rowand's great catches. In the bottom half of the inning they showed Ozzie's reaction. The first thing he said was "motherf***er", then he raised his right hand and said yeah. DJ said "first he said man, that's far."
  8. Gammons on the Mike and Mike show this morning said the White Sox may be looking at Moyer. He didn't expand on that.
  9. Well, it's really both of the above. Everybody feels like their pain is worse, because it's their pain. I've been watching the Sox for 54 years now, and that Seattle Koch game was the first time I could not sleep all night. You talk about pain....
  10. Well, no. The pitcher you bring in must face one batter, so Jackson had to pitch to Broussard. Not for long, mind you, but he had to pitch to Broussard.
  11. There's a very good chance that if the other team has homered, Politte is already on the mound.
  12. Cotts in relief: 23.2 Inning 19 hits 13 earned runs 4 homers 13 walks 20 strike outs about a 4.55 era
  13. Where is this Wrigley place you speak of?
  14. I haven't seen any comment about the Orioles picking up Grimsley. I think we could have used him, and it didn't seem like they gave up much. Grimsley would have made Politte obsolitte (heh heh), which strikes me as a good thing. Plus Frank wouldn't have to face Grimsley anymore. Frank vs. Grimsley, not a good thing.
  15. The reason that it was the biggest win of the year is that it would have been the worst loss of the year.
  16. He makes a lot of bad pitches that wind up in the bleachers. But he's very young and has a pretty good arm. I doubt that there's anyone in the minors, at least lefthanded, that would be a better choice. I say keep him, and suffer the growing pains.
  17. It could be raining frogs, and in the pregame they'll say, "Roger Bossard says there's a two window that should be here around 8:00, so we should be able to get this game in."
  18. No, the blame will fall on the fans, for not coming out more than 2.2 million times.
  19. Ignore the spelling on this, but I read this morning that the Sox are officially calling up Vic Darrensbourg and have again stalled Kelley Dransfeldt's inevitable enshrinement in Cooperstown by sending him back down. I hadn't seen this here, so I thought I would add it. Viva Ozzie!
  20. He said he was gonna pay his parents house off with his bonus money. He took their joking well. He's going to Winston Salem tomorrow. He said he has hit with wood bats before, thinks his biggest adjustment will be to experiment with various companies' bats, hopes to find one that's the closest to a metal bat (???), said football was not something he's even thinking about. Baseball was always foremost in his plans. DIdn't want to get clobbered on a daily basis. He's 6 foot 2, 215 pounds. Said he's built a llittle thicker than pro quarterback types. His first love was baseball his dad was always his baseball coach. Played basketball thru sophmore high school. His mom was the basketball coach. He was a fan of baseball growing up, watched it growing up, rather than Smurfs and scooby doo. He was watching SportsCenter. Grew up rooting for Oklahoma guys like Robin and Pete Incaviglia. When asked about his glovework, he said his fielding % is .949, range is "not a speedster" but he'll take the shots off his chest and throw it across. "I just jump in front of anything" brings a football approach to that, and to taking a fastball off his back. Arm strength? He said I guess the football helps a little, I have an ok arm, I normally get the guys out at first, he said. Sounded like a level headed kid, nice guy
  21. He's gonna be interviewed by Boers and Bernstein just after 1:00 p.m. today.
  22. I was also at the two Comiskey playoff games in 1983. Murray crushed a home run off of Dotson in game 3, and the game was over early. Then Burns was fabulous in game 4. Here's a stat for you. The ball Landrum hit to win the game was Britt's 150th - yes, 150th pitch of the game. Dybber still sucks for overrunning second base. ALso, 1983 was the All Star game at Comiskey, Lynn's slam, and a ton of roof top homers from Kittie and Luzinski. There's something about a roof shot that makes the homer look extra long, even if it wasn't. 1983 was a great year with an awful end.
