And drag it out? Not me. Bronx Bombers in 4.

The paper today quoted Billy Beane as b****ing about his payroll limitations. Something like if you give me another 50 million bucks, we'd win one of these series. His owner was not amused. It also said that Foulke was unavailable for game 5 because of his back.

TexSox, you have hit on the catchphrase of the new millenium! Mind if I use it sometime, as in IAFN?
-
Maybe, but here's a worse idea they may go with: Sportsmen of the Year - Long Suffering Cub Fans! ARRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
-
Although a low payroll is almost always a guarantee.

Nelson and Garcia face possible criminal charges?

Wasn't Robbie Alomar's ump-spitting thing in the playoffs? He was suspended at the start of the next season, I think. Nothing will happen to these Yankee players until the offseason. -
I agree on all counts. One thing though: can you imagine how bad it would be to be in a ballpark full of Cub and Yankee fans?
-
If you hoped the White Sox would sign Colon (I did), no news is bad news.
-
Hank Blalock - World Series MVP!

Others have said LaTroy will wind up with the Yankees, and from NY's point of view it makes a lot of sense.

1. The Baseball Prospectus guys really ripped KW last winter for letting Oakland "steal" Mark Johnson in the Koch trade. I think they were so into ripping KW they lost objectivity. MJ was/is not aggressive enough at the plate - so many times trying to lay down a perfect bunt rather than hitting a liner somewhere. He had a good arm though. 2. However, he's another White Sox first round draft choice that really couldn't be described as a success story. Remember the stink management raised by putting Josh Paul on the 2000 playoff roster and dropping MJ?

Great find! thanks for letting everyone know about it.

Rex, I hope you're right, but here's what I see as dark clouds on the horizon. I consider Colon gone. Replacing his 244 or so innings will be no easy task. Say somehow they do. There's still no real fifth starter, and who can say what Garland will do next year. So the rotation, the most important thing about a club, is up in the air. Bullpen loses Gordon. What Koch will we get? That's a problem. There is no shortstop who can hit and field. Konerko is an 8 million dollar problem. Frank is Frank. The player who showed the most heart, Everett, will not be back. They don't think they can afford Ordonez. It doesn't seem like the minor leaguers are ready, altho we all hope for good things from Reed. The guy who will make these decisions, KW, has been successful about half the time, and his failures aren't just little ones, they're the Grand Canyon of failures. A GM can't be successful half the time, not if you want the club to be good. So those are my concerns. Doesn't this seem like a long list of problems to you? It seems to me that there are too many ifs here to just rely on the division being weak.

And Gardenhire can keep whining as long as he keeps winning the AL Central. The fact that the White Sox have lost this division two years in a row to the f***ing Twins is a joke. Wrong. Jokes are funny.

How do you guys feel about Ronny Santo?

Oh God, that's a goodie!!!! -
The question is are you serious? First of all, no we don't spend 70 million. That's not the White Sox way. Secondly, Colon wants more than 13 million, Everett will likely make more than 5 million, Garland will make more than 1 million... I think they'll move Maggs, though. That was my point. A serious organization can take what we have and build something big. I realize we won't spend the money and do this. I believe the dollar amount of Colon is what he will settle for. This was what guys got last year and the market seems to be tougher this year as there are other guys out there. The saving grace is that JR needs to realize that unless he takes huge steps this organization will be at its lowest point come Spring Training. Soxfest will consist of autograph seekers and that is it. The next two weeks and three months following can decide the fate of this team for the ten years. My idea was to bring us to a level to compete with America's Team, if not, a $60M payroll is useless as it will not be compteitve enough to gain and recognition needed to draw more than 10,000 a night. I think you're absolutely right. I've been a Sox fan for 5 decades, and I've never been so pessimistic about ownership's commitment. Veeck in the 70's had no money, and so you knew they'd be bad. But this ownership....you just don't feel they give a s***.

Santo played for the Sox in 1974. Kessinger from 77-79. Kessinger was fired as Sox manager (well he sorta resigned) the same day Thurman Munson crashed his plane. A partial list of those who have played for both teams: Steve Stone, Scott Fletcher, Vance Law, Robert Machado, Kenny Lofton, Randy Martz, Pat Tabler, Warren Brusstar, Steve Trout, Dick Tidrow, Jim Essian, Bob Molinaro, Lynn McGlothen, Steve Renko, Thad Bosley, Phil Regan, Ken Frailing, Frank Baumann, Jimmy Stewart, Jimmie Schaefer, Dennis Lamp, Ken Kravec, Jay Loviglio, Bobby Bonds, George Bell, Wayne Edwards (I think), Luis Salazar, and the good lord willing, Mike Sirotka. I'm sure I'm forgetting more famous players. -
Plus the Mets were in the World Series just a couple of years ago.

Santo's Sox Career: G 117; BA 221; 83 hits, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 5 homers - one of which was an inside the parker as I recall - the left fielder cracked his head against the wall -; 29 runs, 41 RBIs 37 walks, 72 K's. -
Yes, we save our idiot fans for Royals games.

The operative word being "if". Or "imagine".

Oh thank God, I was afraid it was Rafael Santana!
