When this year began he had 1 year, 122 days of major league service time. Add a year, and he's still at least two years away from arbitration eligibility. While I agree they should treat him fairly, historically they economize (screw) those contracts they can, and he'd be one of them.

It's not a matter of getting used to Prior and Wood. Wood, if his control is on, is just about unhittable. Prior basically is unhittable. You have to hope Wood's control is off, and you need your own pitcher to be at his very best. Then you have a chance.

Kudos to Chris Brenon (?) of ESPN radio

Let me add this thought. For those people who are saying that now they are rooting for the Cubs because it's a Chicago team, or because Santo is sick, or whatever...It's a very simple test. If you root for the Cubs, you are a Cubs fan. When it's over, you can't come back. You're tainted for life...you're a Cubs fan. :fthecubs and their fans. -
I agree. Baker's gonna use Prior in game 6 and Wood in game 7, if it gets that far.
-
Well, if you're gonna look, you should use both ii's!

Yes. Yes, you are.

JR has 14 million reasons.

1. This is the year we find out about Reinsdorf???? Where have you been since 1980? We have found out already, many times over. 2. Trading away stars after bringing in a new manager - I'd bet that one of KW's interview questions covers the "possibility" of having to make economically motivated personnel decisions.

If Gaston gets the job, I doubt that Ozzie will come in as a 3rd base coach. First of all it would mean that Gaston got to choose none of his coaches, since they've already renewed all the other coaches. Secondly, why would Ozzie come here as the 3rd base coach? He'd be better off staying in Florida, work under McKeon and keep his name open to all other clubs, rather than waiting around for a newly hired Gaston to move on. You ask and Shall recive my Friend.... "If Guillen is not hired as White Sox manager, he is expected to rejoin the Sox as a third-base coach, another position that also is vacant at this time. Former Toronto Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston is the front-runner for the Sox's managerial position, according to a team source." http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/081sd5.htm That doesn't mean I still can't doubt it!

I heard today that Cub fans were still doing the chop last night. What, did they think the Braves were watching on TV? Pathetic morons.

How do you guys feel about Ronny Santo?
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Funkman7's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, you know, he has had both legs cut off. So it hasn't been all peaches and cream. I can't stand him in the radio booth, he's absolutely awful. Good player, hall of famer as far as I'm concerned. And, oh yes, f*** the Cubs and all Cub fans. -
Just so you know, YASNY, that was on September 3, 1990.
-
Oh, no, not the steel chair! He's busted wide open!

My guess is it's pretty much a matter of logistics. Whichever side of the property had more room to build the bigger locker room gets the home team. Or maybe more convenient to the players' parking lots, that sort of thing.
-
Strange, I got sick after seeing him.
-
I hear Billy Martin was there in spirit.
-
Maybe you never heard him in his prime. No doubt he stayed on the job way too long, but when Harry and Jimmy did the Sox games, nobody was ever better than those two. And when Harry joined the Sox, he had a lot to do with improving their attendance by hundreds of thousands of people.

I was getting sick of hearing that the Cubs hadn't won a post-season series in 95 years, yada yada, when I realized - the White Sox now hold the dubious distinction of the longest post-season dry spell. We were the world champs in 1917, putting us one year longer than the Red Sox. So at least we got that going for us.
-
Don't forget to ask Tom Gordon and Jerry Manuel while you're at it.
-
Yeah, and if that happens how many times will we have to endure the story of the fabled pointed home run? "Almost 70 years ago Babe Ruth stood at this spot and pointed into the night, now after all these years, will Sammy Sosa repeat the historic act with a swipe of his bat". :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou :fyou I think the networks wouldn't mind a Red Sox - Cubs world series. Go FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Knowing the Sox they will go after Ponson. Kenny has wanted him for awhile now. CWSOX45 And from whats been mentioned Ponson would be pretty happy in Chicago. KW has wanted him for a while. He'll be happier where a team is serious about winning. I think we'll know if the Sox are serious about winning soon enough. If they sign a guy like Cito to be their coach than I think we could have a lot of potential free agents interested in coming to the White Sox. CWSOX45 Free agents follow the money, not the managers.

Koch is untradeable.

Minoso - 9, Pierce 19, Fox 2 (although he wore 26 in 1952). 21's in Sox History through 1971: Gerry Staley 1956-1961, Ray Herbert through 1964, Jim O'Toole in 67, Dan Osinski in 69, Lee Maye in 70, Bart Johnson 1971. It was also worn by Cal Eldred, Joey Cora, and it was the first number Robin Ventura ever wore for the Sox. Now there was a legend.
