The name of the movie is "Only the Lonely" with Ally Sheedy, and it's a great way to remind yourself how Old Comiskey looked. The scene with the park is about 45 minutes or so into the movie, and you should try to see it.

White Sox 5th Starter? Starting CF?
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Loaiza21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Schoenweiss and Rowand. Of course, if Ozzie's the manager, Rowand may be the pitcher and Shoney the centerfielder. -
I understand that if the Twins are losing after the top of the seventh tonight, they're gonna play "Hey Jude."

Both of you are absolutely right. Rios was horrible.

There's a reliever in Oakland.....

Add Mark Grace to the list
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He meant that, like bookends, the M begins his name and the E ends it. The notion that Mark Grace would manage the White Sox this year is astonishing. Why don't we just disband the team instead? This would be the best entry in a "Let's Piss Off Most Sox Fans" contest. I always called Grace the Moth, because when those camera lights were on, there was Grace's face. In fact, words that were never spoken: "Mr. Grace was unavailable for comment." Universally loved player: Cal Univerally hated player: Albert -
Murcie, you can put it on the board. Mercy!

That could never happen. Bring back a fan favorite? A nice guy who's a clubhouse leader? A positive influence? Here? Robin's a grinder, KW, get'em.

Ichiro wants a new deal or else...

I'm just repeating what I read, perhaps at another board, but the White Sox put Cameron through hell when his wife was pregnant, just before he was traded to Cincinnati. If the story is true, the bad guy probably was Schueler, could've been Williams, but whoever it was, it's probably enough to keep Cameron away. I think it's a moot point, because I don't think Cameron will sign for anything close to 2 million - I think he'll get a lot more than that. Also the notion that we would trade Reed away is unlikely to me. Cheap, promising talent -- the Sox will hold on to that. -
1990 was a great year. The Sox had been between mediocre & lousy for the last few years of the 1980's, and in the first half of 1989 they were truly horrible. But in 1990 you could see them coming around. So, in the last year of Comiskey Park, on July 1 (80 years to the day of the opening of the park) Andy Hawkins throws a no-hitter for the Yankees and loses to the Sox. Man you shoulda been there.

Tom Shaer has been an idiot for many years now.

Backman hasn't even been called yet
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, sort of. He hit .164 in 31 games for the 1997 White Sox. -
The front page of the paper (not the sports section) had a big picture and story about the retirement of Ron Santo's number. Y'all remember when Harold Baines's number was retired, they did the same thing. Oh, wait..... Guess they missed that one. We even gave them two opportunities.

Old Comiskey by a landslide.

Ichiro wants a new deal or else...

Whatever Ichiro is looking for, we won't pay it either. -
That was mine too, but as I recall, PK homered in the bottom of the 11th, I think, and then Frank homered in the bottom of the 12th. And it was the best game I ever saw in person, and I've been going to Sox games since about 1962.

I would like to trade Konerko for any kind of young arm, and I'd probably have to pay half of Konerko's salary to do it. It still may be impossible to accomplish that. But what I think the White Sox are going to have to do (in their minds) is trade Magglio.
-
Well, I don't, and you don't, but Reinsdorf do.
-
Based on his history of paying for top talent in the player department?
-
IF it can be done, the question remains: Can KW do it?

Well, here's one fan that would give a huge :fyou to Ozzie Guillen. I lost all respect for him when he made the comment that ballplayers don't owe fans anything during The Strike talks. Damn! ... We got rid of " :fyou Jerry Manuel" and we haven't even hired him yet but he's gonna be " :fyou Ozzie Guillen". Killa, you're amazing dude. But he's not wrong. I remember Ozzie saying that, and being pissed at him. Mrs. Al Lopez's Ghost still hasn't forgiven him.

You, sir or madam, are out of your mind.

well i've always tried to practice "Chicago First" Im a diehard soxfan, and I love them waaaaaaay more than the cubs, but if the cubs went... 156-6 and those six loses came against the sox... I would be happy. I'd be happy too... ...so long as Houston/St. Louis/Cincinatti/Pittsburgh/Milwaukee went 157-5 and two teams from one division went 157-5 as well. lol!
-
Not the asshole cub fans I know. I was minding my own business Sunday, wearing a Sox hat and sweatshirt. Guy looks over and says "The Sox are a joke!" I don't talk to cub fans, so I ignored him. You can always tell a Cub fan, but you can't tell him much.

Torre would be too rich for our blood.
