  1. Let's say our current payroll is 55 million. Add 8%, and you're at just below 60 million. Historically, very few teams have "gotten the job done", if the job is make the playoffs, let alone win the World Series, at that salary level.
  2. Yes. And Kessinger, and Larry Doby, and Don Guetteridge. Torborg had managed before, and Bob Lemon had too.
  3. Both the Dodgers and Royals web sites say the season ends October 3, 2004
  4. Well, our richest contract ever is 3 years, worth between 30 and 33 million dollars. He will get 5 years somewhere, for more than 60 million dollars. New manager, worse pitching, KW redecorating the team...This ain't gonna be pretty....
  5. Yes but now you are allowed to use Flat screen TV's for BP. As long as they're not made out of aluminum.
  6. The Southtown and Sun-Times are saying our huge offer to Colon is 3 years for a total of 30-33 million. That won't be enough.
  7. I believe Jerry Manuel has been cut.
  8. He's far and away the best White Sox position player of all time. I still wouldn't be surprised if he's hit his last home run for the White Sox.
  9. I'd go nuts trying to figure out how much each guy is gonna make, so this is without having totaled up these numbers, but since KW said the budget will only go up marginally, and they're offering Colon a huge contract, I wouldn't be surprised if they trade Maggs. Welcome to the hitless wonders, 2004.
  10. Luke Appling? Bench, Gehrig, Joe Morgan, Honus Wagner, Mike Schmidt, Williams, Mays, Ruth. Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, Cy Young, Warren Spahn, Bob Gibson. Eckersly and Wilhelm in the Pen. That was my White Sox bias coming out. I'm cool with that. For what it's worth, Bill James lists Eddie Collins as the second best 2nd baseman of all time, behind Morgan. After I posted my list, I remembered somebody named Barry Bonds, who really has to be on the list. I'd have to freeze out Ted.
  11. The papers are saying KW said our budget will only go up marginally. We can't compete at 55 million, can we?
  12. You're right, and I think their major league scouting is pathetic. They keep trading for major leaguers who can't play. Todd Richie, Billy Koch, David Wells, Royce Clayton are the most grievous examples. Now I know Everett, Robbie and Colon are contrary examples, but those other guys were flat out bustouts. Wasn't it someone's job to look at these guys????
  13. The KC website says they play at Chicago April 12. WE ALSO CLOSE AT KC IN OCTOBER!!!! Geez how about some variety, guys? Also, thanks to the White Sox for keeping their fans informed.

  16. It would be one of the darkest days in Sox history if they traded Mark Buehrle for a manager. Maybe we throw in Maggs too.
  17. Be interesting to see where the Montreal games get played. And hello Rocky Biddle!
  18. And he just drove in Carlos Lee's 100th run scored! Carlos stomped on the plate, so it meant a little something to him. Way to go guys.
  19. ...than Jerry Manuel. At Wednesday's game Loiaza was in the dugout when we scored 8 runs in the sixth inning. I and a lot of fans wanted to see Loiaza come out for the top of the seventh, even if just to throw one pitch, so that he could walk off to a guaranteed deserved standing ovation. But no, Manuel kept Loiaza on the bench and brought in a reliever. After the game, Loiaza said he twice told Manuel he wanted to come back on the field, and then Jerry said now, it'll keep you out of Sunday's game. Just now, in the top of the fourth, Pena let his regulars, like Sweeney run out to their positions, then replaced them all, so they could come off to the field for a standing ovation. I'm sure it felt good for the players and the fans.
  20. The Dodgers web site has their tentative 2004 schedule. Hello Gallas???? It's called Marketing!
  21. I don't think he's been very happy here with his playing time, and he hasn't exactly set the world on fire. He'll look for, and find, a better fit.
