Yankees have announced two starters out of the three game set, both with ERAs over 5. Schmidt 2-5, 5.01 era tomorrow against Gio. No one announced for Wednesday against Lynn Severino 0-1, 5.28 era against Clevinger Thursday.
-
The Yankees front office is keeping the status of Aaron Judge’s big toe out of the media so far. No IL stint has been announced yet, but they could always post-date it. Many rumors swirling he may have broke his toe making the diving catch. Nestor Cortes is also a recent addition to the IL for a shoulder injury. Former Sox Carlos Rodon and Ian Hamilton are also out for the series.

Trading One Year Assets is Inevitable. Maybe even 2-yr
SouthSideGeorgia replied to SouthSideGeorgia's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agree. That would mean Giolito, Grandal (heck, trade him now before he slumps), Lopez and Middleton have some perceived value for different reasons. I doubt Andrus and Alberto can be moved at this point. Anderson should be considered for trading if the value is right, but he is at the lowest point of his career. Tough to move him mid-slump. Hendriks, Graveman, J. Kelly are all 2-year bullpen arms and might offer some interesting trade offers. Maybe. Not sure Lance Lynn offers any trade value. Or Clevinger (maybe more than Lynn). -

19-30, 49 games played (30%), 6.5 games behind Twins, 59 games until trade deadline on Aug 1st. What will the Sox do? What should the Sox do? -
They will pitch Lambert to get whatever they can get from him since he is rested. Jimmy is at the bottom of our bullpen lineup and the Hendriks call up is pending. After Lambert, Scholtens will take over for the remainder of the middle innings. Lambert will then be demoted to AAA for Hendriks soon.
-
Forgot about Jesse Scholtens. He is probably the call up. Already on the 40-man with 7 starts in AAA at 3.99. Era. Has already been up with Sox to pitch 3.0 innings this season.
-
Here is the injury that epitomizes our management’s failure to provide starting pitching depth on the MLB team and in AAA. Sox have no one ready. Best options in AAA are Fisher (who started in today’s win) and maybe Davila (who started yesterday). So neither is ready to pitch tomorrow. Yeah Sox. No one else in AAA has earned it. Stiever has only pitched 4 innings this season. AA Birmingham has Matthew Thompson, but that would be a huge ask this early in his career. Dumb Hahn…

Trading One Year Assets is Inevitable. Maybe even 2-yr
SouthSideGeorgia replied to SouthSideGeorgia's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So with the thought that we have the following potential one-year assets in SP Giolito, C Grandal (playing better), BP Lopez (past performance?) and BP Middleton (discovery)… and I will just mention the remaining one-year players with no value probably in SS/2B Andrus and IF Alberto. And possible 2-yr assets in SS Tim Anderson, BP Hendriks, BP Graveman, SP Clevinger, and BP J. Kelly (improving). Sox maybe have SP, BP, SS, and C to trade with. Looking at the MLB contenders (minus the Central): Miami needs SP, C, 3B, maybe SS Arizona needs SP, 3B Dodgers need SS, maybe SP San Diego needs C Mets need SP Rangers need 3B, maybe SP (deGrom) Astros C, maybe SP Toronto needs Maybe SP Rays C maybe -
I agree with that, although Sox may have to eat some of that salary to get a decent enough prospect. It’s still a very expensive salary. But I deal him…
-
The only way to get to +$80 million is: Giolito, Lynn, Clevinger gone Grandal, Andrus, Alberto gone Lopez, Middleton, Kelly, Graveman gone For about $84 million (bold names have to be trades) …and even with that amount of retooling, you probably should consider Hendriks too. …… Leaving just Cease and Kopech as starters. ? Vaughn, Anderson, Moncada, Eloy, Benintendi, Robert, Colas with holes at C and 2b. Bullpen would be Crochet, Bummer, Hendriks, Lambert, Santos, and maybe Banks. So lots of holes there… especially if you trade Hendriks. …… You could soft rebuild as above, but you’d need to try and swing deals for almost ready made starting pitchers (Dodgers farm has a ton). That is the single biggest gap next year. I almost would ask for just pitching in return for all trades because we are so deficient.

SouthSideGeorgia replied to SouthSideGeorgia's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anderson +$1.5 million Moncada +$7 million Benintendi +$8.5 million Robert +$3 million Jimenez +$3.5 million Bummer +$1.75 million Hendriks +$666,666 equals about $25.92 million in increases before arbitration. add in arbitration increases maybe for Cease, Kopech, Vaughn, Lambert, Crochet and that $43.525 salary savings next year is mostly eaten up. And we’ll need 2 SP, a catcher, 2b and bullpen. -
With some assumptions (losing Giolito, not picking up Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly option) Sox save potentially $43.525 million from ‘23 to ‘24. But increases in Sox players contracts are $29 million from ‘23 to ‘24. Chunk of that is Moncada and Benintendi contracts increases Therefore, a savings of only $14.525 million next year. And Sox still need to sign potentially 2 starters, catcher, 2b and bullpen arms next year. Maybe we stand pat at bullpen, catcher and 2b… but you still have to get two starters. The farm is devoid of starting pitching at the highest level maybe besides Davis Martin for next season. Then you have arbitration eligible players also that will make more money next year like Cease, Kopech and now Vaughn. ? With our losing record, there is no way we don’t trade away assets. No way. There such a pending bloated payroll that the Sox have to get under control for a bad team. It’s inevitable. No doubt we try trading away one year assets like Giolito, Middleton, Lopez, Grandal, Andrus, and Alberto. But only half may have any value. Based on where we stand and where we project next year, you also have to consider trading 2-yr assets like Anderson, Hendriks, Graveman, Clevinger, and Lynn. This is a pretty big crunch coming up and Sox need to free up payroll. It’s coming…

Giants so desperate to make a move, any move… I wonder what they would offer for Timmy. I know, I know… we’d need a SS then. But I still wonder. -
2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
SouthSideGeorgia replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Some Players available for Rule 5 that could be interesting since they are advanced at least to AA. All are within their current team’s Top 30 prospects: Diamondbacks - OF Dominic Canzone Braves - RHP Victor Vodnik Tigers - SS Wenceel Perez Tigers - OF Parker Meadows Tigers - 3b Andre Lipcius Astros - OF Corey Julks Brewers - RHP Cam Robinson Phillies - LHP Erik Miller Pirates - OF Matt Gorski Padres - RHP Moises Lugo Rangers - RHP Mason Englert -
I was told the Cardinals needs a DH (maybe Abreu), and a catcher for the first time in 19 seasons. Jose could relieve Goldy at 1b similar to how Albert did recently. Could be a good fit.

Just say no to Carlos "I'm the Product Here" Correa
SouthSideGeorgia replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would take Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts or a distant third in Correa as a free agent over Tim Anderson. Sign one of them as a free agent for SS, and opt of of Anderson. Or opt in on Anderson and either move him to 2b or trade him for things you need. Ok, back to reality. ? -

Nice to see Pollock on pace to earn another $1 million. No rest is needed…. and nothing to see here Hahn. -
9/22 Sox vs. Guardians 7:10PM CT
SouthSideGeorgia replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in 2022 Season in Review
Agreed. At a minimum, for the fanbase to have anything to look forward to, a new manager is required. I believe we are also past the threshold for new management too. Our rebuild already looks old, unhealthy, slow, no power, and no strength in the bullpen. I don’t think Hahn and Williams should be a part of the decision makers going forward. The White Sox have some big offseason decisions and every player should practically be available for a trade at this point. If we stand pay or sign marginal players for 2023 with TLR as our manager, the fanbase will revolt. -
I really enjoyed that… ?

Anyone surprised or know why AAA lefty reliever Hunter Schryver retired? With the Sox searching for lefty relief at times this season with Sousa, Banks and even Severino, I always wondered why they never considered Schryver for promotion because his career MiLB stats have always been pretty good. Just curious…
