  1. Absolutely American -- Reads like fiction, but is a true story... it's kinda like a documentary in book form... follows a group of cadets through 4 years at West Point... Sept 11 is a couple of weeks into thier senior year and they all face going to war as soon as they graduate... Great read.
  2. Jacque Jones = Jose Valentin for the outfield... Oh and ask Derek Jeter, he's got a noodle arm too.
  3. f*** NO... He's Timo Perez for the infield.
  4. They're right in the middle of the Road... Let me preface that by saying I don't follow alot of other teams very closely. I know the sox system pretty well, and I have a feel for most of the top prospects in baseball, but I just don't see the sox ranking highly enough in terms of top prospects to be considered "among baseballs best"... All of the sox minor league talent plays below AA. Even next season, a year later, Anderson(AAA) and McCarthy(AA/AAA), probably still won't be ready to contribute on the Major League level... That being said, there is sufficient stregth at the lower levels to support trades to aquire ML talent, or going the complete opposite direction, slowly, methodically, build a quality team from within. (that would just take considerable time, patience, subsquent good drafts, and luck)
  5. 14 on top 10 lists - 2 traded for garcia + only 1 @ AA or above ≠ Among Baseballs best farm systems and I've defended the sox farm system in the past.
  6. Piling on for the Dolphins... Chidi Ahanatu (Sp?) has gone AWOL from the fins, and is now demanding a trade from the winless team. At this point, U of Miami would destroy the fish.
  7. As I said, It's not a gamble I would take were Boras not Magg's agent. (damn double negative) -- It's a huge risk, and one I don't think they take, but it should be considered, knowing that Boras would likely regect any arbitration offer. As for some team swooping into save the sox the trouble of having to make a tough decision, Arbitratoin offers have to be made by the first week of December. Is there any reason to believe that Maggs will be off the market by that time given SB's past dealings.
  8. A player can get less $$$ at arbitration, but it's capped at 80% of the previous years salary. Meaning you can't take more than a 20% pay cut.
  9. I would have said, No, don't offer him arbitration until I read this article. How many Scott Boras clients have ever accepted arbitration? If he actually is with Boras, it may just be a well placed gamble to offer it to him, knowing it will be rejected.
  10. From my conversations with ATL fans, their main concern isn't SS w/o Furcal; It's the absence of a laed-off man.
  11. Borchard's batting .143 with a HR in the Mexican league -- /gets BA's prospect report.
  12. Not to beat a dead horse but, Houston is the 4th largest market in baseball. The top three markets all are divided in 2, (NY, LA/ANA, CHI) meaning that Houston is the top undivided market in baseball. They are not a "small market" team by any stretch of the imagination.... I will now go back to where I left of back on page 5 or 6 somwhere, I'm sure I will chime back in to revive the argument Edit: no need to chime back in, you all did a fabulous job.
  13. It must not be playing much in Chicago -- I've seen it posted once before, and I think that was by 1549(NJ). I would think that the Chicago market would be the one that it would have the most resonance in, but I guess that's not their thinking. Also supposedly it says he plays "for a famous Chicago baseball team" -- That's a blatant attempt to capitlize on ignorant Cubs fans.
  14. FU Jon Lieber!!! Why couldn't you just roll over, have your option declined and end up pitching game #3 of the ALDS next year for the White Sox?

You will get sox games.... Update: http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbullet...2123#post512123
  16. I did write that s***... Oh wait, mine had some(not alot) substance.
  17. Bush won... l3u5h is teh r0x0rz OMG!1!11!!1
  18. I've read part of Field of schemes... (as you can tell by my post in PHT about the Brewers organization) I recommend reading Ted Williams, by Leigh Montville. GREAT baseball book.
  19. Here's what I got from one of the guy's over at Braves Buzz:
  20. the lyrics in question appear when M&M is doing a "bad Santa" spoof... There is nothing wrong with kids jumping on a bed, just ask Jackson. If he doesn't want criticism for his actions, as he admitted he "sleeps" with children, he should stop his actions. M&M didn't even come close to going over the line. Anyone see the Chapelle Show spoofing R. Kelly... That's much worse than the M&M video. The only reason this is a story at all is that MJ, despite his wanton disregard for the safety of chilren (both his own and others), is still a powerful man in hollywood.
  21. Here's a good site that gives a collection of things you might otherwise miss from around the college B-ball world http://collegeball.blogspot.com/
  22. Despite what you say, they actually have a lgit shot at playing in the Big XII title game... The North is teh suxors... Right now I would say Kansas and Missouri are the front-runners, and when you say that about football, you know it's up for grabs.
  23. Don't get me started on the f***ing Brewers... They are not a baseball team.. They are a state supported business...Yes state supported. They benefit the most of any single team from the joke of a revenue sharing program the MLB has instated. The Selig's have put no money into that team ever since getting the new stadium built (which cost a few lives on top of taxpayer $$$) -- Now that the sale of the franchise appears to be going down, the Selig's are looking to turn a HUUUUGE profit despite never even attempting to put a competitive team on the field. And most of that profit is off of the blood, sweat, tears, and lives of the people who built that new stadium. You can not believe a single word you hear from within the Brewers organization, especially when they say they have intentions of increasing payroll. The new owners will take more that 6 months to take over, and by then the payroll for next season will already be determined. Look for the Seligs to ship out Kolb, as he is in his final year of arbitration before Free Agency, and install someone cheaper. Profits baby, profits.
